Job summary

San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. seeks a part-time Staff Attorney to support six restraining order clinics across San Diego County. The attorney will advise clients, draft restraining orders, and supervise pro bono attorneys.

Onsite at the downtown San Diego Courthouse, roughly 20 hours per week, with clinics in National City, downtown San Diego, Kearny Mesa, El Cajon, Vista and San Marcos. California Bar membership and strong communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide coverage and support at SDVLP locations across San Diego County.
• Advise clients and prepare self-represented litigants for restraining order hearings.
• Draft restraining orders for self-represented litigants.
• Mentor, train, and supervise pro bono attorneys drafting RO requests and representing SDVLP clients.
• Recruit new pro bono attorney volunteers through community outreach and events.
• Develop and maintain training materials for pro bono attorneys.
• Maintain a small representation caseload in restraining order cases.
• Coordinate with partner staff and supervise non-attorney staff.
• Compile statistical data and assist with narrative reports for funding sources.
• Engage in other tasks to further SDVLP’s mission.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONEstablished in 1983, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. (SDVLP) is the oldest and most comprehensive pro bono legal services program in San Diego County. SDVLP’s mission is to provide equal access to the justice system by serving as a bridge between indigent and other disadvantaged people in San Diego County and the volunteer lawyers who are willing to donate their time and resources. Our team of talented and passionate employees is collegial, supportive, and committed to providing top-quality legal services to indigent, vulnerable San Diegans.OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:SDVLP currently operates six restraining order clinics throughout San Diego County and is seeking a part-time Staff Attorney to support these clinics and our restraining order program.
