Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) seeks sharp attorneys to fight for people who need an advocate. You will handle your own cases, work directly with clients and communities, and have opportunities to litigate in state and federal court, practice before agencies, negotiate with opposing counsel, and pursue broader legal strategies.

We encourage ownership of cases, collaboration with experienced attorneys and staff, and creative litigation to achieve client results.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Texas bar eligibility or ability to waive into Texas.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and priorities.
• Commitment to public interest law and serving underserved communities.

Responsibilities

• Represent low-income clients in civil matters from intake through resolution.
• Conduct client interviews and investigations.
• Research and analyze complex legal issues.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal materials.
• Negotiate with opposing counsel and agencies.
• Represent clients in hearings, trials, and administrative proceedings.
• Develop litigation strategies and pursue federal/state court actions.
• Collaborate with community organizations to identify legal needs and solutions.
• Conduct community legal education and outreach.
• Manage a caseload while balancing deadlines.
