Job summary

Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) seeks a Staff Attorney for the Public Benefits Unit in Houston, TX. The staff attorney will gather evidence, conduct civil lawsuits, draft legal documents, and advise clients on their legal rights.

The role requires courtroom experience, bilingual Spanish/English preferred, ability to supervise others, and commitment to serving low-income Texans through outreach and community education.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Law School.
• Licensed to practice in Texas or qualify for reciprocity.
• Prior legal services or public interest experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Gather evidence, conduct civil lawsuits, draft legal documents, and advise clients.
• Interview clients and witnesses, and handle preparation for representation.
• Represent clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative agencies.
• Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for clients and the community.
• Engage in outreach, community education, and work with the community to further LSLA's mission.
• May supervise subordinate legal, clerical, volunteer, or student workers; handle a caseload and attend evening clinics.
