Staff Attorney, Parole Revocation Defense Unit (Fall 2025)

Position Description

The Staff Attorney in the Parole Revocation Defense Unit (PRDU) will represent clients accused of violating their conditions of release at administrative parole revocation hearings and related proceedings throughout New York City. Responsibilities include handling hearings, negotiations, appeals, and post-conviction work, often in fast-paced, litigation-intensive settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Handle parole revocation cases at all stages, including hearings, discovery, negotiations, and appeals.
  • Collaborate with support staff, paralegals, and investigators to provide effective defense.
  • Partner with social workers to develop mitigation strategies for clients with mental health, substance abuse, or medical issues, and explore alternatives to incarceration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $83,844 - $147,907, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, paid leave, disability, life insurance, and loan forgiveness programs such as PSLF.

Location

Manhattan - Legal Aid Society Headquarters, with frequent travel to courts in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

Qualifications

Qualifications include a J.D. degree and admission to practice law in New York. Prior experience in criminal or parole law is preferred.
