Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active registration and good standing with the Supreme Court of Ohio Office of Attorney Services.
• Minimum of two years of continuous experience practicing law.
• Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills.
• Excellent oral communication and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

• Review, evaluate, and investigate incoming grievances and complaints.
• Gather facts, analyze evidence, and conduct legal research related to attorney and judicial misconduct and unauthorized practice of law.
• Assess complex legal and factual issues and identify appropriate case resolutions.
• Prepare clear, concise memoranda and correspondence; draft recommendations and present findings to supervisory attorneys.
• Communicate regularly with complainants, attorneys, judges, and members of the public.
• Assist with educational initiatives, CLE presentations, and outreach.
• Assist with disciplinary proceedings and related matters as needed; travel throughout Ohio as required.

Introduction

The Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC) is seeking three talented and motivated attorneys to join our Intake Division as Staff Attorneys, including two newly created positions that reflect the continued growth and importance of our work.

This is a unique opportunity for an attorney who is intellectually curious, highly ethical, and committed to public service. Staff Attorneys play a critical role in protecting the integrity of the legal profession and the judiciary by evaluating and investigating allegations of attorney and judicial misconduct, as well as the unauthorized practice of law.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, evaluate, and investigate incoming grievances and complaints.
• Gather facts, analyze evidence, and conduct legal research related to:
• Attorney misconduct
• Judicial misconduct
• Unauthorized practice of law
• Mental health concerns and impairment issues
• Alcohol and substance abuse matters
• Assess complex legal and factual issues and identify appropriate case resolutions.

Written Analysis and Recommendations

• Prepare clear, concise, and persuasive memoranda and correspondence.
• Draft recommendations regarding dismissals, investigations, closures, and referrals for further disciplinary proceedings.
• Present findings and legal analysis to supervisory attorneys.

Stakeholder Communication

• Communicate regularly with complainants, attorneys, judges, and members of the public.
• Explain investigative processes and case outcomes with professionalism, clarity, and sensitivity.
• Foster public confidence through respectful and effective interactions.

Education and Outreach

• Support educational initiatives for the bench and bar.
• Assist with continuing legal education (CLE) presentations, training programs, written educational materials, and outreach efforts.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist with disciplinary proceedings and related matters as needed.
• Support attorneys preparing cases for presentation before the Board of Professional Conduct and the Board on the Unauthorized Practice of Law.
• Perform other duties consistent with the mission of ODC.

Some travel throughout Ohio may be required.
