Job summary

Disability Rights California (DRC) is seeking Staff Attorneys 1 or 2 to advocate for students with disabilities and to develop litigation skills in impact cases. The role supports due process hearings, state complaints, and policy advocacy with underserved communities.

Applicants should have a JD with 1–2 years (Staff Attorney 1) or 5+ years (Staff Attorney 2) of legal experience, and an understanding of cultural competency and intersectional issues. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Must meet each minimum qualification to be considered for an interview.
  • Awareness of cultural competency and intersectional issues.
  • Ability to research and analyze legal authority.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and develop creative solutions.
  • Desirable: fluency in Spanish or an Asian language; ASL knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in impact litigation.
  • Representing clients in negotiations, mediations, and judicial/administrative proceedings.
  • Participating in public policy activities including drafting of legislation and regulations.
  • Engaging in community-based advocacy, outreach, and training for disability communities.
