Job summary

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Division for Children, Youth, and Families has a full-time vacancy for Staff Attorney in the Seacoast District Office (Portsmouth).

Serves as the onsite legal counsel for the Division, handles child protection matters in NH courts and administrative hearings, and develops legal strategies while interpreting state and federal law. Requires a JD and NH Bar in good standing with four years of practice.

Qualifications

• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Four years of active practice of law.

Responsibilities

• Litigates on behalf of DCYF in child abuse/neglect, termination of parental rights, guardianship, and administrative appeals.
• Represents DCYF in court and administrative hearings.
• Assists CPSWs in case preparation for litigation in court and other proceedings.
• Provides ongoing consultation and training to DCYF CPSWs to adhere to best legal practice.
