Maryland Center for Legal Assistance (MCLA) expands access to justice by providing free, compassionate, innovative, and high-quality legal services. The organization operates Court Help Centers across Maryland to provide civil legal advice via phone, chat, email, and videoconference.

MCLA seeks a full-time Staff Attorney for the Remote Services Center in Annapolis, MD. Successful candidates must be admitted to the Maryland bar and have experience in civil litigation, legal research using

Qualifications

Admitted to practice in Maryland.
1+ year civil litigation experience.
Ability to conduct rapid legal research using Westlaw.
Strong customer service and empathy for distressed individuals.
Spanish and ASL fluency strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide brief legal advice and information via phone and online chat.
Assist clients in drafting pleadings and motions and understanding court documents.
Provide referrals to legal service organizations and lawyer referral services.
Be available to support MCLA’s other offices as needed and work 8:30 am–8:00 pm.
Perform other duties within the scope of the essential functions of the position.
