JOB OVERVIEW:
IRC seeks a Staff Attorney to join its Dallas Children’s Legal Services team to provide legal services to unaccompanied children detained within the custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), placed in the Unaccompanied Refugee Minor’s (URM) program, and released from ORR custody to sponsors in the DFW area.
The attorney will conduct legal relief eligibility determinations, meet with and advise child clients, and provide direct legal representation to children. Relief will include filing for special immigrant juvenile status, asylum, T Visas and U Visas, requiring the attorney to appear in DFW area state courts, immigration court, and before the Asylum office.
The Staff Attorney will bring a passion for this area of work and some experience with immigration legal services.The position will work in collaboration with community partners and will be part of the Children’s Legal Services, led by IRC’s Immigration Technical Unit (TU) at IRC’s headquarters, which supports IRC’s 24 legal service programs across the US.
This is a temporary position until September 30, 2025, with possibility of extension dependent on funding.
