Job summary

NATO invites applications for a Staff Assistant (Business Continuity) within the ACT Office of Security. The role supports BC policy, planning, oversight, and guidance and contributes to developing and maintaining directives and local BC plans across HQ SACT and subordinate commands.

The successful candidate will assist risk assessments, coordinate exercises, and liaise with NATO HQ and external stakeholders to ensure continuity capabilities and incident recovery are strengthened.

Qualifications

  • 2 years experience with higher education path, or 4 years post-related experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in business or office administration.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Business Continuity Management and disaster Recovery within a large organization.
  • 1-2 years of experience in writing and developing policy documentation.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the management of risk in relation to cybersecurity and/or CIS operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Staff Officer (Business Continuity) in developing ACT Business Continuity directives and guidelines.
  • Advising and supporting the development and maintenance of the HQ SACT Business Continuity directives and guidelines.
  • Supporting HQ SACT and subordinate entities in developing and implementing local Business Continuity Plans.
  • Advising and supporting ACT subordinate commands on Business Continuity.
  • Assisting the Staff Officer (Business Continuity) risk assessment and Business Impact Analysis to identify ACT critical functions and dependencies.
  • Supporting ACT BC Plans to assess compliance with the Alliance Business Continuity Plan.
  • Maintaining close liaison with the NATO HQ, ACO, NCI Agency, NSPA, and other relevant stakeholders in relation to Business Continuity.
  • Supporting ACT BC Education and Awareness Program.
  • Supporting the training of staff with specific BC responsibilities.
  • Supporting BUDFIN to identify the budget impact in relation to ACT Recovery Strategies.
  • Supporting and participating to the Business continuity and disaster recovery exercises within ACT.
  • Assisting and supporting the Alliance Business continuity and disaster recovery exercises.

Post Context

ACT contributes to preserving the peace, security and territorial integrity of Alliance member states by leading, at Strategic Command level, Warfare Development required to enhance NATO's posture, military structures, forces, capabilities and doctrines.

The Resources and Management (RM) Directorate acts on behalf of SACT on all internal management and resource-related issues. It monitors the coherency of ACT plans to ensure that ACT remains an effective and efficient organization and improves continuously.

The ACT Office of Security has staff responsibility to execute, provide and coordinate security services to the headquarters, its subordinate commands, and to the NATO community at large, operating at all levels of command to ensure the security of its personnel, assets, and resources.

The Staff Assistant (Business Continuity) within the ACT Office of Security is supporting Business Continuity (BC) policy, planning, oversight and guidance. With regard to the BC concept, it is stated as the conceptual and procedural approach, in terms of planning, preparation, and exercise execution, to enable ACT to operate, at an essential level, in case of serious incidents or disasters and enable the recovery to a normal operational state within an acceptable period.

Principal Duties:
  • Supporting the Staff Officer (Business Continuity) in developing ACT Business Continuity directives and guidelines.
  • Advising and supporting the development and maintenance of the HQ SACT Business Continuity directives and guidelines.
  • Supporting HQ SACT and subordinate entities in developing and implementing local Business Continuity Plans.

Essential Qualifications / Experience:
  • Higher Secondary education and intermediate vocational training in business administration, engineering, economics, public administration, operations research, business process engineering or related discipline which might lead to a formal qualification with 2 years experience, or Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 4 years post related experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in business or office administration.
  • 1-3 years of experience in Business Continuity Management and disaster Recovery within a large organization.
  • 1-2 years of experience in writing and developing policy documentation.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the management of risk in relation to cybersecurity and/or CIS operations.
Language:
  • English - SLP 3333 - (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing)
Desirable Qualifications / Experience:
  • Experience in a security or operational planning field.
  • Experience analyzing security impacts to Business Continuity planning.
  • Experience in a large international organization BC operation.
  • Practical knowledge of military organization missions, functions, and operations.

  • The post-holder must be able to work independently with little supervision to achieve their outputs. The incumbent must demonstrate excellent speaking and presentation skills, interpersonal tact and the ability to work harmoniously in a fast-paced, changing international environment. The candidate must be comfortable dealing directly with individuals holding all ranks on a daily basis. Strong teamwork is essential. Post holder will plan own work and will be required to use initiative and own knowledge to deliver effective outputs.
  • Professional Contacts:
  • The post-holder must develop and maintain professional contacts, often at a higher level, both within HQ SACT but also across HQ NATO and with other external stakeholders.
  • Contribution To Objectives:
  • The incumbent will be responsible for directing the organization and implementation of Business Continuity activity across ACT. The post-holder will be required to provide advice and guidance on BC matters and design and implement BC directives, the success of which directly impact SACT's ability to meet future tasking.
Security Clearance

The successful applicant will be required to apply for and receive a NATO SECRET Security Clearance prior to final confirmation of contract and commencement of employment.

Contract

Serving NATO International Civilian staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations. Newly recruited staff will be offered a three year definite duration contract.

The candidature of NATO redundant staff at grade G10 will be considered with priority.
