Job summary

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, MA is seeking an Academic Outreach Coordinator to join the Office of Academic Advising & Support. The role focuses on advising, outreach, and retention initiatives, coordinating with students via EAB Navigate and other systems to support student success.

The coordinator will conduct intake meetings, plan campaigns, refer students to success coaches, and maintain documentation across Canvas, DegreeWorks, EAB Navigate and Banner while

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology or related field required.
  • Experience working with students in a college setting preferred.

  • Provide advising support for undeclared programs and general student advising.
  • Collaborate with faculty, success coaches, disability resources, and TRiO programs to support retention.

Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: A key member of the Office ofAcademic Advising & Support Team, the Academic OutreachCoordinator works directly with students and contributes to themanagement of the administrative and functional operations of theoffice. Duties include general advising and undeclared studentadvising, academic case management outreach, and retentioninitiatives. The Academic Outreach Coordinator will utilize MCLA'sstudent management system, EAB Navigate, to coordinate and keeptrack of student outreach. The Coordinator promotes a positive andsuccessful learning experience for students. Applying a holisticapproach, the Coordinator works within the context of specificsubject content and provides general guidelines to help studentsrefine and improve their academic habits and college success.

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Academic Outreach
  • Assist with outreach and follow-up with students who receivedmid-term warning(s), academic concerns, attendance concerns,academic probation, academic suspension, or other matters.
  • Plan and organize email and text campaigns to students thatalign with the academic calendar.
  • Conduct intake meetings with students and make referrals toAcademic Advising & Support success coaches (faculty andstaff).
  • Process academic notifications to the campus communityincluding absence notifications.
  • Assist and advise students seeking withdrawal or leave ofabsence from the College.
  • Conduct exit interview with students withdrawing from Collegeto determine the basis for the decision and future plan(s).
  • Meet with students approved for a leave of absence from Collegeto determine goals for college completion, short and mid-termacademic plan(s). Coordinate with student's major department asnecessary.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to, and maintain contact with,students on leaves of absence and ensure they are well acquaintedwith and supported in taking next steps in order to facilitatestudent return to MCLA and college completion.
  • Conduct sessions and routine check-ins via phone, web meeting,and in-person to monitor students' progress.
  • Learn and understand all current resources available to MCLAstudents to enhance their educational experience, persistence, andgeneral well-being, and make referrals as appropriate.
  • Submit routine reports of student contacts and interactions,any issues that arise, and facilitated outcomes of sessions. Submitall required reports and documentation of student interactions in atimely fashion.
General Advising
  • Assist advisement of Undeclared Program; Represent the Programat Admission and College activities and events.
  • Provide general advising to new, returning, readmitted, andDual Enrollment/Early College students.
  • Work in collaboration with Faculty Success Coaches, DisabilityResources, TRiO Student Support Services, Trailblazer TutorProgram, and Athletics' Trailblazer Success Program.
  • Assist and participate in faculty advising training sessionswith Center for Teaching and Learning.
  • Maintain updated student data, including documentation of allstudent interactions in MCLA's learning management system (Canvas),academic planning tool (DegreeWorks), Student Success ManagementPlatform (EAB Navigate), student records system (Banner) and otherrelevant platforms.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities thatprovide awareness of best practices supporting student retentionand success, including but not limited to diversity, equity,inclusion, and justice work.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule is required. Evenings andweekends may be necessary at times.
Supportive Duties
  • Assists other staff members with phone/office coverage whenneeded.
  • Assist with campus and community programs and events.
  • Serve on relevant campus committees and working groups.
  • Provide advising support as needed to all students asneeded.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology orrelated field required.
  2. Experience working with students in a college setting.
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students,staff, and faculty both verbally and in writing.
  4. Previous experience working in an academic support settingpreferred.
  5. Excellent organizational, coordination, and time managementskills to prioritize workload and provide assistance to studentsand college community members as needed.
  6. Exceptional communication skills to interact with a diversearray of students and colleagues to provide high-quality supportand customer service to students.
  7. Knowledge of current technologies and word processing,database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specificallyMicrosoft Office applications.
  8. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Additional Information:

This is a full-time permanent, benefited position within the APAbargaining union. Salary for this position is $52,000-$55,000 peryear.
