Job summary

Muon Space in San Jose, CA is seeking a Staff Architect for the High Performance Compute (HPC) team to define and evolve the onboard compute platform architecture. You will be the focal point for software architecture, data flows, and multi-processor integration across FPGA, GPU, and CPU for space missions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, with 7+ years in system-level or compute-platform architecture.
  • Hands-on implementation experience across software, API design, FPGA programming, GPU programming or low-level networking software.
  • Track record in architecting heterogeneous compute systems (FPGA/GPU/CPU), ideally in embedded, aerospace, or high-performance edge environments.
  • Experience with onboard networking and data-flow architectures (Ethernet, DMA, zero-copy, real-time streaming).
  • Ability to balance architectural purity with mission pragmatism for multiple missions and reuse.
  • Experience driving cross-team architectural consensus across hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and executive audiences.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain U.S. security clearance (active clearance a plus).

Responsibilities

  • Own the software, data flow and computation architecture and design process for Onboard High Performance Compute.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering and Product to drive end-to-end requirements and design.
  • Translate architectural requirements into a forward-looking compute roadmap.
  • Unify architectural concepts into a coherent, company-wide HPC architecture.
  • Drive cross-discipline alignment across FPGA, GPU, CPU, onboard networking, timing; define data flows and processing pipelines.
  • Champion a network-first onboard architecture with modular, configurable compute components.
  • Work with Electrical Engineering to ensure executable silicon procurement, PCB/module/harness design.
  • Communicate architecture through diagrams, docs, white papers, and talks for all audiences.
