Job summary

Versar Global Solutions in El Paso, Texas, seeks an Archaeological Field Technician to support fieldwork, supervise crews, and contribute to post-field analysis and reporting on NRHP projects and data-recovery investigations.

The ideal candidate has a BA in Anthropology or Archaeology, at least three years of field experience, strong technical writing, GPS/Trimble data-collection skills, and the ability to travel and relocate as needed.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience on large-scale archaeological survey, NRHP evaluation, and data recovery projects.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines governing cultural resources.
  • Proficiency with GPS/GNSS technology and the ability to adapt to evolving archaeological data-collection and mapping technologies.
  • Experience collecting field data using Trimble GPS units, data dictionaries, and digital recording systems, including recording site attributes through standardized menus and forms.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and work with archaeological field crews in remote and demanding field environments.
  • Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by start date.

Responsibilities

Who You Are:

Versar Global Solutions is seeking Archaeological Field Technicians to support basic fieldwork initiatives.

What You'll Do:

The Staff Archaeologist will be responsible for organizing and supervising archaeological fieldwork and will contribute substantially to post-field analysis, technical report production, and project administration. He/She may be assigned to large-block archaeological surveys, National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) evaluation projects, testing and data recovery investigations, and other cultural resource management projects throughout the Southwest. The successful candidate will be expected to provide effective field leadership, maintain high standards of archaeological documentation, and work closely with Project Archaeologists and Principal Investigators to ensure that fieldwork and reporting requirements are completed accurately and efficiently.

What You'll Bring:
  • B.A. degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of three years of archaeological field experience and technical report-writing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience on large-scale archaeological survey, NRHP evaluation, and data recovery projects.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines governing cultural resources.
  • Proficiency with GPS/GNSS technology and the ability to adapt to evolving archaeological data-collection and mapping technologies.
  • Experience collecting field data using Trimble GPS units, data dictionaries, and digital recording systems, including recording site attributes through standardized menus and forms.
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and work with archaeological field crews in remote and demanding field environments.
  • Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
  • Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
  • Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate's start date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Eligibility to obtain, or willingness to work towards obtaining archaeological permits in Texas, New Mexico and/or Arizona.
  • Experience conducting cultural resource investigations on U.S. military installations.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, site forms, NRHP evaluations, testing reports, and data recovery reports.
  • Familiarity with large-scale cultural resource management projects conducted for federal, state, military, and commercial clients.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, ArcGIS Field Maps, Trimble GPS/GNSS equipment, or comparable archaeological field-data collection systems.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass required security clearance or background investigations.
  • Ability to conduct archaeological survey and excavation under a wide range of environmental and weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Successful candidate must reside in El Paso, Texas, or an adjacent community.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for extended field assignments as project requirements dictate.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $50,000.00 - $54,000.00

Versar Global Solutions is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the Company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. The Company reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's status protected by local, state, or federal law.

Location Requirements

The position will primarily work within the vicinity of El Paso and be expected to relocate within commuting distance.
