Job summary

HDR is seeking a Staff Archaeologist in the Dallas area to conduct site testing, analyses, and develop design options for development projects involving archaeological resources and historic structures. You will work with a team, provide technical deliverables, and travel to North Texas project sites as needed.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Familiar with field study design and regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities.
  • Active participant in employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform site testing and analyses on development projects involving archaeological resources, historic structures, tribal resources and excavations
  • Provide technical expertise to develop design options or recommendations, and assist in the preparation of service deliverable documents
  • Perform routine scientist assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior scientists on larger projects
  • Give direction to clerical and technical personnel as needed
  • This position will require travel as needed to North Texas offices and client project sites
  • Perform other duties as needed

In the role of Staff Archaeologist, we'll count on you to:

  • Perform site testing and conduct analyses work on a variety of development projects involving archaeological resources, historic structures, tribal resources and excavations

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to record cultural resources in the field without any physical assistance (this could include hiking short distances in scrub and native vegetation).
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone and email.
  • Must be able to effectively work in minimally supervised and/or unsupervised environments.
  • Work hours other than 8 to 5 which may include weekends and/or night shifts.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and be able to operate a vehicle day or night.
  • Approximately 66% travel is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's
  • Previous work experience in cultural resource projects
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History or closely related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Willingness to work under varied weather conditions
  • Successful candidates must be familiar with field study design and documentation, regulatory framework for cultural resource management, and GIS utilities
