Job summary

SCAN Health Plan seeks a Staff Software Engineer for AI Governance in Long Beach to design and build enterprise AI governance platforms, with automated pipelines for model lineage, bias detection, drift monitoring, and compliance auditing across the product lifecycle.

You will mentor engineers, set architecture direction, and ensure production reliability while upholding HIPAA, HL7, and FHIR standards in cross-functional AI initiatives across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with at least 3 years in production ML systems, MLOps, or AI safety infrastructure.
• Proven ability to design end-to-end solutions and make architectural decisions in enterprise environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python and at least one systems language (Go, Java, or C++).
• Deep understanding of LLM architectures, transformer models, retrieval-augmented generation, and traditional ML algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain enterprise-grade AI governance platforms with model lineage, bias detection, drift monitoring, and compliance auditing.
• Design and enforce deterministic guardrails for autonomous AI agents, ensuring HIPAA data boundaries are respected.
• Set engineering standards, drive reproducible ML practices, and guide architectural decisions for AI safety deployments.
• Mentor mid-level and senior engineers, collaborate with Legal/Compliance/Security teams to translate regulatory requirements into automated solutions.
