Job summary

SCAN in Long Beach, CA seeks a Staff Technical Engineer to architect and safeguard AI systems across the enterprise. You will build governance platforms, model lineage, bias detection, and compliance auditing, bridging AI engineering with legal and security requirements.

You will mentor engineers, shape roadmaps, ensure HIPAA data boundaries, and push scalable, trustworthy AI deployments with robust monitoring and risk management across product lifecycles.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years in production ML systems or AI safety infrastructure.
• Proven ability to design and implement end-to-end enterprise solutions and make architecture decisions.
• High proficiency in Python and at least one systems language (Go/Java/C++).
• Strong understanding of LLM architectures, transformer models, and ML algorithms.
• Experience building enterprise-grade AI proxy layers to redact/anonimize PHI before external LLM APIs.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain enterprise AI governance platforms for model lineage, bias detection, drift monitoring, and compliance auditing.
• Design deterministic guardrails for autonomous AI agents ensuring HIPAA/data boundaries.
• Establish standards and processes for reproducible ML deployment and responsible AI.
• Provide technical leadership and roadmap decisions for AI safety initiatives.
• Improve integration platform architecture and tools for scalable AI deployments.
• Identify and resolve production bottlenecks and reliability issues in AI integrations.
• Ensure adherence to HIPAA, HL7, and FHIR in all integration work.
