Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Staff AI Engineer (Remote Eligible) to help build production AI systems and scalable ML platforms. You will partner with engineers, scientists, PMs, and product teams to deliver AI-powered products and governance across systems.

You will design, train, deploy, and optimize foundation models, including LLMs, while applying state-of-the-art techniques for performance, latency, and cost. The role emphasizes responsible AI and cross-functional leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 8 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 6 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies
• At least 8 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, CUDA, or Java
• Experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or equivalent private cloud)
• Experience architecting, designing, developing, integrating, delivering, and supporting complex AI systems
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor multiple engineering teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders up to the VP level

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products
• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training and LLM inference
• Leverage Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch)
• Invent techniques to optimize foundation models for scale, cost, latency, and throughput
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems
• Set the technical direction for enterprise AI architecture and deployment standards
• Own model routing, caching, and orchestration for hybrid/multi-model workloads
• Champion responsible AI principles across system design and governance
• Drive education, mentorship, and best-practices across architecture councils and AI guilds
