Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Staff AI Engineer to join our Data & Intelligence function. You will build retrieval, graph, and inference layers on top of our data platform and develop agentic and deterministic systems to transform signals into action for customers.

The role focuses on hands-on engineering across observability, core data platform, and insights, with scope to move across priorities and share capabilities across teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 3+ years shipping AI/ML systems to production
• Strong Python and SQL fundamentals
• Advanced SQL and dbt experience
• Experience with data at scale and retrieval/graph methods
• Knowledge of Temporal or LangGraph is a plus

Responsibilities

• Write and ship production AI code daily.
• Lead work on making customer context retrievable at speed using semantic retrieval, indexing, and knowledge graphs.
• Build inference and signal layers reading from a lakehouse and exposing signals via contracts.
• Turn signals into workflows with human review when appropriate.
• Choose tools for workloads, manage inference costs.
• Own evaluation and observability for AI systems.
• Set patterns for other teams and align with product and platform goals.
