The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely maintenance & preparation of all financial information, operating reports, statistics and general ledger accounts that are assigned to them. The primary focus of this role is centered around, General Accounting, Grants Accounting, Revenue Accounting, Taxes & Tax Preparation, and assistance with Financial Statement Preparation. As with all other members of the accounting department, the Senior Accountant is expected to be familiar with and maintain compliance with GASB & FASB Generally Accepted Accounting Principles as well as any applicable regulatory standards and requirements associated with the company. The employee is expected to maintain confidentiality commiserate to the sensitive information that they are privy to in their role as a Senior Accountant and to act in a professional manner as defined by the company's premier expectations.

Key Job Responsibilities
Essential Function

Maintains current awareness of customer needs and meets standards and requirements of accounting functions to reflect and meet hospital objectives in accordance with established policies and procedures.

  • Implements established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program and safety standards.
  • Resolves complaints, conflicts and operational problems. Identifies problems, documents resolutions and communicates with applicable parties to ensure that operational issues are handled and resolved in a timely manner. Informs Controller/Assistant Controller of any problems which cannot be resolved or require intervention.
  • Assists in the development of policies, procedures and standards.

Coordinates with various hospital staff to ensure accurate processing and maintenance of accounting systems and financial records.

  • Willingness to approach, research, and resolve any accounting issues that may arise.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of accounting processes and makes decisions which utilize resources effectively.
  • Makes changes and recommendations as needed to enhance/improve services and efficiency in operations.
Essential Function
  • Completes assigned account reconciliations and analysis.
  • Ensures resolution of discrepancies among accounts.
  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of surveys.
  • Assures accurate and timely completion of all reports, records, tax payments in compliance with generally accepted accounting practices and state/federal regulations.
  • Assists in the preparation and release of financial analysis and other financial information to appropriate sources as requested.
  • Assists in coordinating financial information for outside entities (including financial audits, banks).
  • Assists in preparation and filing of all tax filings both federal and state including but not limited to: Non- profit Informational Filings, 1120’s, TN Franchise & Excise Tax reports, Sales & Use Tax Exemptions, Property Tax Filings, Property Tax Exemptions, Quarterly Payroll Tax Reports, and others.
  • Assists in preparation of Grant Fillings and recognition of revenue.

Apprises upper management of all activities, pertinent changes in internal/external market, threats, and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner and presents action plans for immediate implementation/approval.

Ensures confidentiality and safeguard of financial information.

Answers inquiries and communicates effectively with others. Provides training and assistance to management staff in establishing proper chart of accounts and interpretation of financial and operating reports/information.

Prepares and maintains required reports, records and files for administrative and operational purposes.

  • Utilizes computer and information systems to enter, formats data and generates statistics, computations, tables, charts and graphs.
  • Utilizes analytic skills and statistical analysis to aggregate data to assist with the identification of potential problems and patterns, trends, establishes priorities and recommends improvement activities.

Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements to maintain and increase knowledge of accounting practices. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities.

  • Attends in-services, educational programs, conferences and other meetings as required.
  • Supports and is involved in the organization’s Performance Improvement initiatives.

Coordinates and integrates activities within accounting sections and other departments to maximize overall effectiveness of the department.
