• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• Two or more years of accounting, internal audit, or financial statement audit experience.
• Public accounting, large corporate accounting/internal audit, property and casualty insurance, or MGA experience, preferred.
• CPA, CIA, CISA, CPCU, ARM, AIAF, progress toward designation, or technology-enabled audit or controls testing experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for accurate and timely journal entries and analysis of key program business partners' financial results by preparing and reviewing accounting entries.
• Assist in coordinating general accounting tasks to ensure adequate training, documentation, and completion of work by deadlines.
• Optimize efficiencies within workflows and reporting of financial results for Specialty Clients business.
• Prepare and/or analyze commission and contingent commission results and share with Sales and other stakeholders to ensure plans support business objectives.
• Prepare and/or review accrual entries for contingent monthly accruals within close timelines to finalize reporting to regulators, international parent, and internal management.
• Prepare and/or review contingent and incentive commission payments and statements ensuring calculations align with contracts.
• Monitor, prepare and/or review complex reconciliations and engage in ad hoc analyses and accounting initiatives.

The Staff Accountant II plays a critical role for the Accounting Team and is responsible for preparing daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting entries and finalizing key financial reporting to Regulatory Authorities, the International Corporate Parent and Internal Management. This position is also responsible for State filings and correspondence, account reconciliations, and performing internal controls related to these activities. The Staff Accountant II is involved in ad hoc analyses and other accounting projects as needed, and is expected to build expertise and capabilities in Insurance Accounting through formal and informal training and development channels. Strong collaboration and communication of analysis within the Finance team and across departments is essential to ensure that the stakeholders stay abreast of the key developments that drive results.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Responsible for accurate and timely journal entries and analysis of key program business partners financial results by preparing and reviewing accounting entries.
• Assist in coordinating general accounting tasks to ensure adequate training, appropriate process documentation, and completion of work by scheduled deadlines
• Optimize efficiencies within the workflows and the reporting of financial results for Specialty Clients business
• Prepare and/or analyze commission and contingent commission results and share the results with Sales and other stakeholders to ensure the plans are supporting the business objectives and incentives in place.
• Prepare and/or review the accrual entries that support the contingent commission monthly accruals within the financial reporting close timelines to finalize financial reporting to Regulatory Authorities, International Parent Company and Internal Management.
• Prepare and/or review the contingent and incentive commission payments and statements ensuring the calculations are supported by the contract terms and all data sets for the contractual calculations are validated from source systems.
• Monitor, prepare and/or review more complex account reconciliations and gets involved in ad hoc analyses, accounting research and other accounting initiatives and projects as needed.

Required Technical Skills:

• General Accounting knowledge and on the job experience with ledger transactions, reconciliations, and sub ledger functions across various transaction streams including cash, receivables, payables, premiums, and losses
• Experience using Microsoft Excel including the use of macros, pivot tables, and other Excel advanced functions
• Proficiency with all other Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint)
• Experience using data mining and reporting tools such as COGNOS Advance and Oracle Sequel or similar programs
• Detail oriented, organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multi-task work
• Strong team orientation, collaboration with co-workers and clients to develop and implement solutions
• Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral)
• Agility and ability to work in ambiguous situations
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and consolidation accounting
• Basic working knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (STAT)
• Working knowledge of a General Ledger operating system and data retrieval/analysis tools i.e., Oracle and Cognos
• Understanding of internal controls and risks and assists with implementation

Education, Certifications & Designations:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Two or more years of accounting, internal audit, or financial statement audit experience.
• Public accounting, large corporate accounting/internal audit, property and casualty insurance, or MGA experience, preferred.
• CPA, CIA, CISA, CPCU, ARM, AIAF, progress toward a relevant designation, or technology-enabled audit or controls testing experience, preferred.
