Mercy Housing is seeking a Staff Accountant I to perform full-cycle accounting and ensure accuracy of financial statements for assigned entities. Located at 1600 Broadway Denver, CO, this hybrid role requires 1 day in-office per week.

The position offers a competitive hourly pay range ($28.85-31.25/hour) dependent on experience, with benefits including health, dental and vision plans, PTO, holidays, 403b with match, and family-friendly leave policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
• 1–2 years of accounting experience.
• Public or industry accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile bank accounts accurately and timely, noting outstanding items at month end.
• Research historical accounting transactions and reconcile differences between A/P or A/R and G/L modules.
• Prepare periodic financial statements as directed by Accounting Manager.
• Create explanations of financial statements in narrative form for users.
• Prepare financial statement related reports.
• Perform reporting required by outside agencies.
• Assist in budgets and schedules for annual audit.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Staff Accountant I is responsible for full-cycle accounting and for ensuring the accuracy and reasonableness of financial statements, narratives, and supporting schedules for assigned reporting entities.

Location:

1600 Broadway Denver, CO | Hybrid, 1 day per week in-office

Pay:

$28.85-31.25/hour, depending on experience

Duties

• Reconcile bank accounts accurately and in a timely manner, with attention to unusual items that remain outstanding at month end.
• Perform research on historical accounting transactions. Reconcile differences between A/P or A/R modules and G/L module.
• Prepare periodic financial statements (as directed by the Accounting Manager) within assigned time limits and accuracy standards.
• Create relevant and current explanation of financial statements in a narrative format for any financial statements released to users.
• Prepare financial statement related reports.
• Perform reporting required by outside agencies.
• Assist in the preparation of budgets and schedules for annual audit.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• 1-2 years of accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in public or industry accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
