Job summary

Metro West Housing Solutions is seeking a Senior Accountant to supervise the Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists, overseeing banking, GL, assets, AP, AR, and HAP functions. You will lead annual compliance efforts for SAM entities and Colorado registrations, while driving process improvements and technology updates, including Yardi enhancements.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting with 5–10 years of accounting experience, preferably in government, and strong Excel/Word

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or similar field required.
• Five to ten years' professional experience in accounting; government experience preferred.
• Experience working with schedules and external auditors preferred.
• Knowledge of fund accounting is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervision, training, and mentoring of the Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists.
• Direct oversight for Banking, General Ledger, Assets, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, HAP and related duties.
• Coordinate AR clean-up between HCV and Accounting Specialists for port-in HAP payments.
• Oversee accuracy of Tenant Ledger Corrections, Deposit Reversals, Budget Input, and Job Costing (Yardi).
• Ensure annual compliance for SAM government entities and Colorado Secretary of State filings.
• Research and implement technology updates, including Yardi, for efficient accounting functions.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supervising, training, and mentoring the Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists. Oversight of all Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists, including, but not limited to: Banking, General Ledger, Assets, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and HAP. Will be responsible for determining and implementing technology updates to improve accounting functions. Will be the primary back up for the Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Supervision, training, and mentoring of the Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists.
• Direct Oversight and Responsibility for Accuracy of the following: Banking, General Ledger, Assets, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, HAP, and all other duties performed by the Staff Accountants and Accounting Specialists.
• Visa: Employee lock-outs/password resets; allocations; notification of open items.
• Oversee and facilitate communication and A/R clean-up between HCV and Accounting Specialists specific to port-in HAP payments.
• Oversight and supervision of the accuracy of:
  • Tenant Ledger Corrections
  • Deposit Reversals and Redepositing
  • Budget Input and Monitoring
  • Job Costing - Yardi Input
• Ensure annual compliance for all SAM government entities and annual Colorado Secretary of State compliance for all MWHS entities and trade names.
• Research and implement technology updates, including through Yardi, to ensure effective and efficient accounting functions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or similar field required.
• Experience: Five to ten years' professional experience in accounting. Experience in governmental area preferred. Experience working with schedules and external auditors preferred.
• OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

• Knowledge of customer service etiquette and interpersonal skills to manage difficult situations, sensitive issues and to work with the general public in responding accurately and appropriately to citizen inquiries.
• Must possess sound accounting knowledge, accounting methods, procedures, terms, and experience in preparing various accounting monthly and year end journal entries, a high degree of attention to detail.
• Fund accounting knowledge is a plus.
• Must be computer literate; possess a working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and Word programs with ability to demonstrate strong keyboarding skills.

Expected Hours of Work

Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
