Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Excel proficiency and strong organizational skills.
  • 1–3 years general accounting experience desirable.
  • Familiarity with GAAP and accounting fundamentals.
  • CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Record and maintain revenue transactions.
  • Process and record overhead accounts payable transactions.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for month-end close.
  • Assist with monthly accruals, prepaid expense amortization, and fixed asset depreciation.
  • Reconcile bank and general ledger accounts; prepare supporting schedules.
  • Assist with variance reporting and forecast-to-actual analyses.
  • Prepare wire requests and support cash management activities.
  • Support audit requests and provide documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure accurate financial information.

Location

This is a 100% in-office role in Austin, TX designed to support collaboration, partnership, and team connection.

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant I will support the Accounting and Finance team through a variety of accounting functions, including account reconciliations, month-end close activities, financial reporting support, journal entries, and process improvement initiatives. This role works closely with multiple departments throughout the organization and provides an opportunity to develop a strong foundation in accounting within a growing homebuilding company. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, proactive, and committed to continuous learning. Duties / Responsibilities
Recruiting & Talent Support
  • Record and maintain revenue transactions in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Process and record overhead accounts payable transactions, ensuring invoices are coded accurately and paid timely.
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Assist with monthly accruals, prepaid expense amortization, and fixed asset depreciation.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for monthly financial reporting.
  • Assist with account analysis and variance reporting, including forecast-to-actual comparisons.
  • Prepare wire requests and support cash management activities.
  • Support audit requests and provide documentation as needed.
  • Partner with departments across the organization to ensure accurate financial information and timely resolution of accounting issues.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies.
  • Demonstrates ownership and adaptability by taking on additional responsibilities and special projects aligned with team and business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent accounting experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of general accounting experience.
  • Experience in construction, real estate, homebuilding, or project-based accounting environments.
  • Familiarity with ERP and accounting software systems.
  • Understanding of GAAP and accounting fundamentals.
  • CPA or CPA-track candidate preferred but not required.
  • Experience with account reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting support.

This position operates in a professional office environment and is a 100% in-office role. It routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, and phones.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt position. An exempt employee is one who is not entitled to the minimum wage or overtime pay protections of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. This position may work outside of normal business hours to include evenings and weekends as needed to complete job responsibilities.

Travel

This position may require occasional travel to company offices, division locations, model homes, recruiting events, volunteer activities such as Brohn Does Good Days, and company meetings. Most travel will be local within the region, with limited overnight travel possible for training sessions or company events.
