Job description

Garde is the financial backbone for independent restaurants: accounting and bookkeeping, with a full software suite for inventory, payroll, scheduling and reporting, all in one place. Restaurants sign with us and expect a clean first P&L inside 45 days, then an on-time seven-day close every month after that. Trusted by over 60 restaurant groups and 200+ locations.

The role

You own the books for a portfolio of restaurants from the day their data lands, and every month after: the close, AP and AR, payroll, the balance sheet and cash. You start with a book of 40 locations. Our AI agents run the first pass on every transaction. You are the review, the exception handler and the final say.

What you'll do
  • Close the books every month, on time: POS sales journals, delivery platform payouts, inventory and COGS entries, accruals and prepaids, inter-company for multi-unit groups.
  • Run AP and AR, including the weekly payment run, vendor credits and third-party platform payouts.
  • Run payroll for tipped staff, review tips and tip credits, and file payroll tax.
  • Own the balance sheet. Every account tied out monthly. No plug accounts.
  • Manage cash against a weekly position and a 13-week forecast.
  • Turn messy data into a clean ledger, and fix the root cause rather than the symptom.
  • Build and clean up historical books, and migrate clients off whatever they used before.
  • Audit before you publish, then explain the numbers to owners and GMs in plain language.
Who fits this role
  • CPA with an active license, or all four exam parts passed and licensure within twelve months.
  • Two or more years in restaurant or hospitality accounting, or public accounting with restaurant clients.
  • Expert in QuickBooks Online: chart of accounts design, classes and locations, bank rules, bill pay, journal entries, month-end close.
  • Have processed payroll for tipped staff, on Gusto, ADP or Toast Payroll, and filed New York sales tax yourself.
  • Comfortable in spreadsheets with messy data: thousands of rows, inconsistent units, three names for the same vendor.
  • Organized enough to close 40 locations a month from day one and grow from there without dropping one.
  • Personable and reliable.
  • Curious about AI tooling.
  • Able to travel to client sites in the metro area a few days a quarter.
Nice to have
  • Restaurant365, MarginEdge, Plate IQ or similar restaurant back-office experience.
  • Multi-unit restaurant group or commissary back-office experience.
  • Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish or Korean, given who our clients are.
How we work together
  • Start with the operator. Every decision starts with the restaurant owner on the other end. We speak kitchen language, not accounting jargon, and we do not trade what an operator needs for what is convenient for us.
  • Accuracy is the job. Clients make real money decisions on the numbers we hand them. No plug accounts, and audit before you publish. Get it right, then make it fast.
  • Get leverage. AI is a teammate, not a demo. We work with agents every day: the operator approves, the agents do the work, and we fix the root cause rather than the symptom. You do not need to code. You need to be curious.
  • Own it end to end. You run your work from start to finished. If something is not done it is yours: you are the person who cleans it, not the one who complains about it. Say it early when something is slipping. No surprises, no quiet failures.
  • Be frank. Say the hard thing to anyone, at any level, before the decision, then commit fully once it is made. Success is never quiet, and neither are problems. Frank is not unkind.
  • Move, then learn. We would rather ship something small this week and be wrong about part of it than plan for a month and be certain. Do it, then learn
  • $90,000 to $110,000 USD a year.
  • Medical insurance.
  • Gym funds (up to $100 a month)
