Job summary

Storm Search is seeking a Staff Accountant in Worthington, OH to join a dynamic finance team. You’ll own revenue recognition, commissions, expense accounting, and GL operations, gaining full exposure to the accounting cycle.

The role emphasizes GAAP, month-end close, and cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Ops, and FP&A to improve processes and reporting. A solid accounting foundation and attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 1–4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting.
• Experience with revenue recognition is strongly preferred.
• Experience with commissions, expense accounting, and general ledger.
• Solid understanding of month-end close and financial statement preparation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts for accuracy and classification.
• Support month-end and year-end close with journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Perform revenue recognition activities per GAAP and company policy.
• Analyze contracts, billing activity, and documentation for proper revenue timing.
• Calculate, record, and reconcile sales commissions and related expenses.
• Prepare commission accruals and investigate variances between actual and accrued amounts.
• Manage expense accounting including employee expenses and prepaid expenses.
• Prepare and post recurring, adjusting, and standard journal entries.
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
• Analyze P&L for trends and accounting issues; assist with reporting schedules.
• Collaborate with Sales, Operations, FP&A, and other departments to resolve questions.
• Support audits with schedules and explanations; look for process improvements.

We’re looking for a sharp, analytical Staff Accountant to join a dynamic finance team and play a key role in revenue recognition, commissions, expense accounting, and general ledger operations. What You’ll Own

• Manage and maintain general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper classification
• Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and account analysis
• Perform revenue recognition activities in accordance with GAAP and company policies
• Analyze customer contracts, billing activity, and supporting documentation to ensure revenue is recognized in the appropriate period
• Calculate, record, and reconcile sales commissions and related expenses
• Prepare commission accruals and investigate variances between actual and accrued amounts
• Manage expense accounting, including employee expenses, corporate card activity, accruals, and prepaid expenses
• Prepare and post recurring, adjusting, and standard journal entries
• Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations and research discrepancies
• Analyze P&L activity and identify unusual trends, variances, or accounting issues
• Assist with financial reporting and preparation of supporting schedules
• Partner with Sales, Operations, FP&A, and other departments to resolve accounting questions and improve processes
• Support internal and external audits by providing schedules, documentation, and explanations
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 1–4+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting
• Experience with revenue recognition strongly preferred
• Experience with commissions, expense accounting, and general ledger
• Solid understanding of month-end close and financial statement preparation
• Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and data analysis
• Experience with an ERP/accounting system
• Strong analytical skills with an exceptional eye for detail
• Ability to investigate discrepancies and explain financial results
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
