This role will work closely with the Director of Accounting to support general accounting operations across the Vantage Network, including managing the day-to-day accounting activities of assigned smaller entities under the Director’s direction and oversight. The Staff Accountant will prepare journal entries and reconciliations, support accounts payable and accounts receivable, review accounting transactions for accuracy, and assist with month-end and year-end close activities. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening accounting processes, and supporting the continued growth of the organization. Our firm is remote but has occasional in-person meetings and events, so candidates located in the Washington DC metro area are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post routine journal entries, including accruals, allocations, reclassifications, payroll-related entries, and month-end adjustments.
  • Perform general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, research discrepancies, and prepare correcting entries as needed.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including preparation of supporting schedules and review of account activity.
  • Manage and support accounts payable activities, including invoice review and entry, proper GL coding and entity allocation, vendor setup, payment processing, and vendor inquiries.
  • Assist with accounts receivable as needed, including invoicing, payment application, account research, and other AR functions.
  • Review accounts receivable transactions for accuracy, including payment applications, credits, adjustments, unapplied payments, and account balances; identify discrepancies and coordinate corrections.
  • Review accounting transactions for proper GL coding, entity assignment, and intercompany allocation.
  • Prepare and record intercompany journal entries and transactions, including allocations, reimbursements, and transfers between entities; reconcile intercompany balances and research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support payroll and benefits accounting, including reconciliations, allocations, and journal entries as needed.
  • Assist with preparation of financial reports, account analyses, and management schedules.
  • Maintain complete and organized supporting documentation and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
  • Contribute to the development, documentation, and improvement of accounting procedures and internal processes.
  • Provide backup support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense management, and other accounting functions as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  • One to three years of accounting experience preferred, including experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and fundamental accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; experience with other accounting, billing, and expense management systems preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research discrepancies and identify appropriate corrections.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain accountability in a remote environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and collaborative approach.
  • Ability and interest to take increasing ownership of assigned accounting functions and entity-level accounting responsibilities.
