Job summary

Valley Settlement is seeking a Staff Accountant to join the Finance & Operations team in Silt, CO. This in-person role handles GAAP-compliant general accounting, payroll, grants, and audits under the Director of Finance & Operations.

The ideal candidate will manage complex reconciliations, grant reporting, and month-end close with strong attention to detail. The position is full-time, with occasional tight deadlines and a generous benefits package supporting professional development and PTO.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with the accounting courses required for CPA licensing in Colorado
  • Three or more years of accounting experience, with direct experience in grant fund accounting
  • Have and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license
  • Must have a reliable vehicle to attend external meetings (mileage reimbursed)
  • Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Google Drive (Documents & Spreadsheets)
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Meet weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual processing and reporting deadlines
  • Responsible for the review and processing of the bi-weekly payroll for a mix of non-exempt and exempt staff (shared with HR & Operations Manager)
  • Process accounts payable and employee reimbursements
  • Enter all credit card charges into the accounting system; follow-up on missing backup for a transaction(s)
  • Prepare and submit Simple IRA employee and employer contributions to designated investment account
  • Perform monthly or quarterly balance sheet reconciliations for all cash accounts, credit cards, contributions receivable, accounts receivable and Simple IRA
  • Perform general ledger account reviews, ensuring transactions are coded and classed accurately
  • Assist with recording releases against temporarily restricted net assets
  • Assist with the annual reconciliation of the contributions receivable and donor database
  • Prepare grant journal entries and all deposits; provide monthly deposit detail report to development.
  • Prepare and submit reimbursable grant invoices in accordance with donor and regulatory deadlines
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Maintain financial documentation to comply with internal financial policies and internal audits
  • Maintain inventory of electronic devices
  • Support fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals and depreciation
  • Works with applicable program supervisors to ensure organization-owned vehicle maintenance logs are up to date
  • Assists the DFO with grants management, regulatory and funder compliance, and timely and accurate reports
  • Contribute to the development and review of annual operating budgets in collaboration with program teams and development
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls
  • In partnership with the DFO, maintain internal controls and ensure adherence to accounting policies, procedures, and grant compliance requirements
  • Assist the DFO with the annual internal audit and requests for information
  • Perform additional accounting and administrative projects as needed

Salary Range

$65,000 – $85,000

Job Description

We are looking for a diligent staff accountant to join our finance and operations team. Under the direction of the Director of Finance & Operations (DOF), the Staff Accountant will have a range of responsibilities, including general accounting duties, assisting with the budget process and internal audits, grant invoicing and tracking, and will provide administrative support as needed. This position will also be assisting the DOF as needed and will respond to information requests by management and for auditing purposes.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Minimum Requirements
