Job summary

equipifi, a Scottsdale-based fintech SaaS, seeks a Staff Accountant to join the accounting team as its second member. You will own the full accounting engine, collaborating closely with the Controller and CFO to scale processes as the company grows.

You bring 4+ years in accounting, generalist experience, and familiarity with QuickBooks, Ramp, Brex, and Rippling. A startup mindset and cross-functional collaboration are essential for success at equipifi.

Responsibilities

• Own the full accounting engine: general accounting, AP/AR, payroll, sales tax, journals, reconciliations, monthly close.
• Review credit card charges, process payroll, prepare JEs for month close, and ensure audit readiness.
• Bring a critical eye and a startup mindset; improve processes, reduce manual work, and leverage AI where appropriate.
• Partner cross-functionally across Ramp users, customers on AR, and internal stakeholders as the scale grows.

Where you'll make an impact

equipifi is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our accounting team as its second member. Alison, our indispensable Controller, has been carrying the full function solo - it's time to build out the team. This is a high-autonomy seat at a company still growing so you won't just be handed a checklist and told to follow it - we’re constantly iterating how we do what we do to better serve stakeholders today and support tomorrow’s growth.

You’re a swiss-army knife accountant who digs into details and then refines them. You'll build with Alison, question what's there, and shape how our accounting function scales as we grow. If you like a role where the job grows with you rather than staying the same size, this is the place for you.

Outcomes You'll Own

Own the full accounting engine. General accounting, AP/AR, payroll, sales tax, journal entries, reconciliations, monthly close. You'll be the one running it day to day, working alongside Alison to keep everything accurate, on time, and audit-ready. Whether it's reviewing credit card charges in Ramp, processing payroll for our team, preparing JEs to close out the month, or catching the small details in a reconciliation.

Bring a critical eye and a startup mentality. You won't just execute the process, you'll question it. Where something's manual, clunky, or "we've just always done it this way," you'll speak up and help us fix it, including finding smarter ways to leverage AI. You're comfortable with ambiguity and ready to build the better version yourself instead of waiting to be told how.

What you bring to equipifi

• 4+ years in accounting. You've done the reps: journal entries, reconciliations, close process, and you know what good looks like because you've built it before

• Broad, generalist accounting experience rather than one narrow lane. You've touched the full function, not just a slice of it

• Public accounting background is a big plus. If you've sat on the audit side, you already know how to question assumptions and hold your own work to a high bar

• Payroll processing experience is a nice-to-have, not a must-have

• SaaS or fintech experience is a great and will help you learn the lingo quickly

• Startup experience is a nice-to-have, but a startup mentality (comfortable with ambiguity, ready to build the process rather than just follow it) is a must-have

• Familiarity with GL systems (we use QuickBooks), AP automation tools like Ramp or Brex, and payroll platforms like Rippling. Direct experience with our exact stack isn't required

• You ask good questions and you're not afraid to be wrong. You self-review before anyone has to ask, and you're comfortable saying "I think we should look at this differently"

• Comfortable partnering cross-functionally, from employees using Ramp to customers on the AR side, more than comfortable presenting to a room

Your future team

You’ll report directly to Alison Byers, our Controller, who’s looking for a true partner to help carry the load as our accounting function scales. This function sits under our CFO, Drew Romney, and works cross-functionally with the entire equipifi team.
