Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • At least two years of experience in an accounting or financial role.
  • Practical experience preparing journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of accrual accounting and general ledger activity.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with company accounting guidelines and GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly expense accruals and other month-end close entries.
  • Prepare and review bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Research and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
  • Review general ledger activity and financial statements for accuracy and reasonableness.
  • Accumulate and analyze financial information used to prepare monthly reports, ledgers, and financial statements.
  • Identify unusual balances, discrepancies, or missing information and recommend appropriate corrections.
  • Maintain clear and organized supporting documentation for journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reports.
  • Respond to accounting inquiries from internal and external business partners.
  • Follow up proactively with stakeholders to obtain information and resolve outstanding items.
  • Communicate potential risks, delays, or unresolved issues early enough for the team to respond.
  • Assist with process documentation and identify opportunities to improve accuracy, consistency, or efficiency.

Brown & Brown is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our growing team in San Diego, CA! The Staff Accountant will be responsible for accounting functions for assigned profit center(s) and ensuring those functions are performed in accordance with Brown & Brown Accounting Guidelines (BBAG) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position will prepare journal entries, reconciliations, account analyses, and month-end financial reporting while supporting multiple programs and systems. The successful candidate will demonstrate accuracy, initiative, adaptability, strong organizational skills, and ownership of assigned responsibilities through completion.

How You Will Contribute:
  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with company accounting guidelines and GAAP.

Skills & Experience to be Successful:
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and recurring deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • PreferredInsurance industry experience.
  • Experience supporting multiple programs or business units.

  • EPIC experience.
  • Velocity or Verity experience.
  • Experience working across multiple financial or operational systems.
  • Experience supporting month-end close activities.

Pay Range $77,000.00 - $80,000 Annual The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
