Job summary

Virginia Housing Development Authority is seeking a Staff Accountant to create, review, and maintain vendor records, process deposits, and reconcile the General Fund and other GL accounts. The role involves preparing journal entries and supporting accurate financial reporting and internal controls.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, several years of accounting experience, GAAP knowledge, and proficiency with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics GP or Jaggaer

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; or equivalent experience in accounting, banking, or finance
  • Several years of professional experience in accounting, banking, or finance with proficiency in AR/AP, vendor management, GL review, and reconciliations
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworks
  • General understanding of GASB standards
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems such as Dynamics GP or Jaggaer One
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to analyze financial data and ensure data integrity
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with commitment to high-quality work
  • Advanced vendor management or automated AP/deposit workflows
  • Experience with Oracle, SAP, or Workday
  • Intermediate Excel (pivot tables, lookups)
  • Identifying trends or anomalies in financial data
  • Preparing or reviewing journal entries in multi-fund or complex environments
  • Collaborative, cross-department problem-solving
  • Process improvements and handling high-volume reconciliations
  • Proactive, solution-oriented mindset

Overview

Join Virginia Housing and help make a difference as a Staff Accountant.

This important role will be responsible for creating, reviewing, & maintaining vendor records, processing deposits, reviewing and reconciling the General Fund, and performing reconciliations for various general ledger accounts. The Staff Accountant will also prepare journal entries and complete the related accounting tasks that support accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency

To be successful in this role you must possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; or equivalent experience in accounting, banking, or finance
  • Several years of professional experience in accounting, banking, or finance with demonstrated proficiency in accounts receivable, accounts payable, vendor management, general ledger review, bank account analysis and reconciliation, conflict resolution, and adherence to internal control practices
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal control frameworks
  • General understanding of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office and experience working within enterprise resource systems such as Microsoft Dynamics GP or equivalent platforms, as well as procure‑to‑pay systems such as Jaggaer One or comparable systems
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately analyze financial data, identify variances, and ensure data integrity
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast‑paced and deadline‑driven environment
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving skills with a commitment to maintaining high‑quality work standards

The ideal candidate would also have experience in:

  • Advanced vendor management or automated AP/deposit workflows
  • Additional accounting platforms such as Oracle, SAP, or Workday
  • Intermediate Excel functions like pivot tables and lookups
  • Identifying trends or anomalies in financial data
  • Preparing or reviewing journal entries in multi‑fund or complex environments
  • Collaborative, cross‑department problem‑solving
  • Implementing workflow or process improvements
  • Performing higher‑complexity or high‑volume reconciliations
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach to challenges

This position will close at midnight on 9/25/2026.

Hiring Range: 62,000-83,500

A background check will be performed as a condition of employment.

A Conflict-of-Interest Act Disclosure form and Secondary Employment Disclosure form will need to be completed as a condition of employment.
