Job summary

Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the CFO and Grants Administrator in daily accounting and finance tasks in accordance with GAAP. The role involves handling accounts receivable, tax reporting, and maintaining financial records within Accufund and QuickBooks.

The position is full-time with benefits in the Finance Department, located on-site at Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. Pay range is $32/hour to $38/hour DOE, 40 hours per week from 8:00 to 4:30 with a half-hour

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Accounting or 2–4 years related experience.
  • Bachelor of Accountancy preferred.
  • Must understand basics of Business, Accounting and HR.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must meet deadlines.
  • Must possess a WA Driver's License and be insurable by the Tribe.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Experience with accounting software, preferably fund accounting.
  • Bondable.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • 10-key skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounts receivable activities including invoicing and collections.
  • Assist Tax Officer with tax reporting and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and files.
  • Prepare credit card reconciliations, fuel card, and travel transactions.
  • Prepare and process check requests for replenishments.
  • Upload accounting data in Accufund and QuickBooks.
  • Monitor office expenses and cash receipts.
  • Prepare and send customer invoices and statements.
  • Assist with intercompany account reconciliations.
  • Assist in asset inventory title management.
  • Support external audits and grant reviews.

LOWER ELWHA KLALLAM TRIBE
Staff Accountant

OVERVIEW: Under the general supervision of the CFO, the Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the CFO and Grants Administrator for the day-to-day accounting and finance requirements in accordance with the funding agreements, requirements and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Consistently applies Core Values supporting Workforce Excellence. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

POSITION STATUS:

Full-time w/benefits - HOURLY

SALARY LEVEL:

(Pay range: $32/hour up to $38/hour- DOE)

WORK SCHEDULE:

8 to 4:30, 40 hours per week, with half hour lunch

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

This position will maintain and process financial transactions within the accounting software:

  • Manages day-to-day accounts receivable activities including recordation of collections and preparation of invoices.
  • Assists Tax Officer with tax reporting compliance and collections.
  • Maintains accurate and complete financial records and files.
  • Prepares credit card reconciliations, fuel card, and travel related transactions.
  • Prepares check requests for replenishments of credit card program accounts.
  • Prepares Accounting data uploads in Accufund system and Quickbooks.
  • Monitors office expenses and enters cash receipts.
  • Prepares and sends customer invoices and statements.
  • Assists with Special check disbursement runs when needed.
  • Assists with intercompany account reconciliations.
  • Assists in entering and maintaining customers’ data in accounting system.
  • Assists in assets inventory title management.
  • Other duties as assigned including audit support for external audit and granting agencies’ reviews.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
  • Ability to understand Lower Elwha Kallam Tribe’s Procurement Policies and Procedures, Accounting Manual, HR Handbook and Funding Sources’ compliance requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work well with others.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in Accounting or University or college program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in bookkeeping, accounts payable, accounts receivables, general ledger and journal entries. Bachelor of Accountancy is preferred.
  • Must understand the basics of Business, Accounting, and Human Relations
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines.
  • Must possess a Valid Washington Driver's License and be insurable through the Tribe.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and Background check.
  • Experience working with Accounting Software, preferably fund accounting
  • Must be Bondable
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • 10-key skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSTION:
  • Must be able to sit for long period of time utilizing the computer networks
  • Be able to lift 20 pounds
  • Must be able to use finger dexterity
  • Be able bend, stretch, squat
OTHER DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to comply with the LOWER KLALLAM TRIBE policies and procedures, including the Drug Free Workplace
  • Be able to work in a fast pace and deadline environment
  • Must be able to travel for training purposes or meetings
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
