Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team in Omaha, Nebraska.

This early-career role offers a solid foundation in corporate accounting, financial reporting, and the month-end close process as you work with experienced professionals. You will prepare journal entries, support close activities, analyze variances, and maintain organized documentation while growing proficiency in ERP systems and Excel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries such as accruals, allocations, and corrections.
  • Support monthly and annual close activities with guidance from senior team members.
  • Learn how to analyze project activity versus general ledger account activity and investigate variances.
  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations with supervision and feedback.
  • Maintain clear, organized supporting documentation.
  • Develop strong attention to detail and reconciliation discipline.
  • Assist in preparing internal financial reports and schedules.
  • Support external reporting surveys.
  • Build an understanding of how data flows across accounting systems.
  • Ad hoc requests.
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting leadership and internal teams to resolve questions.
  • Participate in monthly discussions related to close timing and adjustments.
  • Grow your professional communication skills through meetings and collaboration.
  • Assist with identifying process improvements and efficiencies.
  • Build proficiency in accounting tools such as ERP systems, reconciliation software, and Excel.
  • Help update documentation and procedures as you learn best practices.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide backup support during PTO.
  • Engage in firmwide initiatives such as Young Professional activities and HDR Employee Network Groups

Overview

HDR is looking for a Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who wants to build a strong foundation in corporate accounting, financial reporting, and the month-end close process. In this role, you'll support general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and close activities while working closely with experienced accounting professionals. As you gain familiarity with HDR's systems, processes, and business operations, you'll take on increasing responsibility and contribute to the team's overall success.

In the role of Staff Accountant, we'll count on you to:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or early experience in accounting, audit, or finance
  • Interest in pursuing a CPA or similar certification (support encouraged)
  • Exposure to Oracle EBS, EPM, Power BI, or similar systems
