Job summary

HDR is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our Accounting team in a full-time role. You will prepare and post journal entries, support monthly and annual closes, and analyze variances between project activity and general ledger accounts.

You will build expertise in ERP systems, reconcile balance sheets, and prepare internal financial reports, working with Corporate Accounting leadership to drive accuracy and process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Interest in developing a career in corporate accounting
  • Strong organizational skills and willingness to learn
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries such as accruals, allocations, and corrections
  • Support monthly and annual close activities with guidance from senior team members
  • Learn how to analyze project activity versus general ledger account activity and investigate variances
  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations with supervision and feedback
  • Develop strong attention to detail and reconciliation discipline
  • Assist in preparing internal financial reports and schedules
  • Build an understanding of how data flows across accounting systems
  • Partner with Corporate Accounting leadership and internal teams to resolve questions
  • Participate in monthly discussions related to close timing and adjustments
  • Grow professional communication skills through meetings and collaboration
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies
  • Build proficiency in accounting tools such as ERP systems, reconciliation software, and Excel
  • Help update documentation and procedures as you learn best practices
  • Participate in team meetings and provide backup support during PTO
  • Engage in firmwide initiatives such as Young Professional activities and HDR Employee Network Groups

Job description

In the role of Staff Accountant, you'll be expected to:

  • Build proficiency in accounting tools such as ERP systems, reconciliation software, and Excel

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or early experience in accounting, audit, or finance
  • Interest in pursuing a CPA or similar certification (support encouraged)
  • Exposure to Oracle EBS, EPM, Power BI, or similar systems

Other Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
