Job summary

MBW is seeking a Staff Accountant to join a diverse client portfolio and grow within a public accounting setting. You will gain hands-on experience in tax, accounting, and advisory services while developing technical and professional skills for long-term career growth.

You will work with senior staff on engagements, prepare tax returns, and support financial reporting using QuickBooks and firm software. Strong communication and detail orientation are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent required.
  • 1–2 years public accounting experience preferred, with tax and accounting exposure.
  • CPA candidate or CPA license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns with accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and provide accounting/advisory support.
  • Perform bookkeeping and journal entries to maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate with clients to obtain documentation and deliver exceptional service.
  • Support engagements with senior staff to meet deadlines and standards.
  • Utilize QuickBooks and firm software to improve efficiency and workflow.

What You'll Do

As a Staff Accountant, you'll build a strong foundation in public accounting while working alongside experienced professionals on a diverse client portfolio. You'll gain hands-on experience in tax, accounting, and advisory services while developing the technical and professional skills needed for long-term career growth.

  • Tax Preparation & Compliance: Prepare individual, corporate, partnership, and fiduciary tax returns while ensuring accuracy and compliance with firm and regulatory standards.
  • Accounting & Advisory Support: Assist with financial statement preparation and provide accounting and business consulting support for a variety of clients.
  • Bookkeeping & Financial Reporting: Perform bookkeeping functions, account reconciliations, and journal entries to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Client Collaboration: Communicate professionally with clients to obtain documentation, answer questions, and provide exceptional client service.
  • Engagement Support: Collaborate with senior staff, managers, and partners to complete engagements efficiently while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
  • Technology & Process Improvement: Utilize QuickBooks, firm software, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and workflow.
  • Professional Development: Continuously expand your technical knowledge through mentorship, hands-on experience, and ongoing learning opportunities.
What You Bring
  • Certification: Active CPA candidate or CPA license (Preferred)
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of public accounting experience preferred, with exposure to tax preparation and accounting services.
  • Technical Foundation: Strong understanding of accounting principles with experience preparing tax returns and financial statements.
  • Technology Skills: Experience with QuickBooks and client bookkeeping preferred; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Organization & Accuracy: Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Growth Mindset: Eager to learn, embrace new technologies, and continuously develop professionally within a collaborative team environment.
