Job summary

Mountain Creek Contractors, Inc. is seeking an assertive Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of GAAP, be comfortable with analytical tools, and handle payroll, accounts payable, and related functions to support our growth in North and South Carolina.

You will contribute to modernizing financial operations, perform ad-hoc analysis, assist with audits, and collaborate with managers across departments to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Maintains GAAP-compliant financial records for assigned duties.
• Cross-train across accounts payable, payroll, subcontractor payables, and billings/receivables.
• Uses Excel and ERP tools (Power BI) to analyze financial data and generate reports.
• Identifies and solves financial discrepancies or operational inefficiencies through problem-solving.
• Drives efficiency and data accuracy in the finance team and challenges current practices.
• Performs periodic reconciliations for banks and general ledger accounts.
• Collaborates with managers to ensure alignment in processes and information flow.

We are seeking a talented accountant to help streamline our financial operations and leverage technology to allow for continued growth.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an assertive Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of GAAP principles, excels in adopting and using analytical tools, able to handle payroll and other common accounting functions (i.e. accounts payable, audit support, etc.), and bring problem-solving skills to optimize our processes. You'll also contribute technological expertise to elevate our current systems, such as maximizing benefits of existing systems/tools or implementing automation. While experience in the construction industry is preferred, a positive, can-do attitude and eagerness to learn are most important.

Key Responsibilities:

• Independently perform assigned duties/tasks maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with GAAP.
• Become cross-functionally trained to ensure redundancy across the department. This may involve accounts payable, payroll, subcontractor payables, and/or billings/accounts receivable.
• Utilize spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and other analytical tools (e.g. ERP reporting, Power BI, etc.) to analyze financial data and generate reports.
• Identify and solve financial discrepancies or operational inefficiencies through creative problem-solving.
• Bring a mentality of improving efficiency and data accuracy to our finance team and a willingness to challenge current practices.
• Perform periodic reconciliations for banks and general ledger accounts.
• Collaborate with managers and other departments to ensure alignment in processes and information flow.
• Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and support audits as needed.

Qualifications:

• Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• 3-5 years of full cycle accounting experience, with proven knowledge of GAAP.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other analytical software; experience with accounting platforms like Spectrum, Sage or other software capable of job costing is preferred.
• Willingness to dive-in, adapt and learn proactively as the opportunities arise.
• Excellent communication skills with the discipline to stay organized and complete duties in a timely manner.

• Hands-on experience with payroll and accounts payable processes.
• Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to generate accurate information and reports.
• Technology-savvy with knowledge of tools that can modernize financial operations (e.g., AI-driven analytics, automation software).
• Construction industry experience and bonus if highway/civil construction.
