Job summary

BRG Hospitality Group in New Orleans, LA is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. The role reports to the Controller and handles daily sales reporting, bank reconciliations, and sales tax filings, ensuring data integrity across POS and financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Daily Sales Reporting: Ensure daily and monthly sales reporting in our financial software aligns with POS data.
• Maintain accuracy and integrity of sales data through data validation and quality checks.
• Cash and Credit Card Reporting: ensure receipts tie to daily reports and research variances.
• Bank Reconciliations: perform weekly reconciliations and post adjusting entries as needed.
• Prepare and file timely monthly sales tax returns in compliance with regs.
• Reconcile Sales Tax GL accounts to paid and due.
• Assist in maintaining accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and other financial reporting.
• Reconcile accounts receivable and related ledgers.

BRG Staff Accountant Job Description:

The Staff Accountant operates within our BRG Mission, Vision and Core Values and as a member of our Accounting and Finance team, you contribute to the growth and development of our team and our culture. The Staff Accountant is an integral part of our corporate team reporting to the Controller and is responsible for day to day accounting transactions including but not limited to Daily Sales Reporting, Cash and Credit Card Reporting, Bank Reconciliations, Sales Tax Filings and General Ledgers.

Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Daily Sales Reporting:
• Ensure Daily and Monthly Sales Reporting in our financial software represents and ties to Daily Sales Reporting in our Point of Sale software
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of Sales data by performing regular data validation and quality checks and identifying potential data discrepancies
• Cash and Credit Card Reporting:
• Ensures Cash and Credit Card receipts tie to Daily Sales Reports including 3rd party reporting and researching variances
• Ensures other receipts such as Complimentaries, House Accounts and Gift Certificates are appropriately posted
• Bank Reconciliations:
• Perform bank reconciliations on a weekly basis to ensure Cash Balances per the bank are appropriately reflected in our financial software and posting approved Adjusting Journal Entries as needed.
• Prepare and file timely and accurate Monthly Sales Tax returns ensuring adherence to state and local sales tax regulations
• Reconcile Sales Tax General Ledger accounts to Sale Tax Paid and Due
• Assist in maintaining accuracy and integrity of our general ledger and other financial reporting
• Reconcile general ledger accounts including Accounts Receivable

Requirements:

• Accounting degree, Finance degree or equivalent experience preferred
• Previous experience with restaurant/retail accounting a plus
• Ability to read and write in English
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Knowledge of general ledger software
• Familiarity with internet programs such as Google
• Ability to work in a team environment and maintain a professional manner.
• Available to work 40-45 hours per week
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods (eight or more hours). Able to lift, push, pull and carry a minimum weight up to 50 lbs. Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, up to eight hours per day. Able to reach above head and shoulder levels. Able to twist, kneel, bend and crawl. Able to squat and crouch. Able to perform sweeping motion, front-to-back and side-to-side. Able to work in confined spaces. Able to tolerate exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals. Able to climb stairs and ladders.
