The Staff Accountant works with the Financial Controller and the Finance Team to keep RTIM's day-to-day financial records accurate, complete, and current. This role owns transaction processing and reconciliations across accounts payable, expense reimbursement, corporate cards, and cash receipts, and supports the Senior Accountant and Financial Controller through the month-end close and annual audit. The Staff Accountant serves within the Finance Department in a manner consistent with the purpose, core values, and mission statement of the organization, and reports to the Financial Controller.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Process vendor invoices and payments through Bill.com, verifying approvals, coding, and supporting documentation
• Complete the accounting review of staff and global worker expense reports after first-line review by Operations and HR staff, verifying policy compliance and GL coding, and post them to the general ledger
• Match and code corporate card transactions to the general ledger, and follow up on missing receipts and approvals
• Reconcile vendor accounts and resolve discrepancies promptly
• Ensure donations and other receipts are accurately recorded in the accounting system and reconciled to the donor CRM and bank deposits
• Assist with check processing, deposits, and gift imports as needed, following cash-handling controls
• Provide backup coverage for revenue processing during peak giving seasons and staff absences
• Reconcile bank, credit card, donor platform, and payroll clearing accounts monthly and resolve reconciling items
• Prepare routine journal entries (accruals, re-classes, corrections) for Financial Controller review and posting
• Complete assigned close checklist tasks within the close calendar
• Help prepare monthly fund reports and account schedules as directed by the Financial Controller or Senior Accountant
• Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for the annual external audit as assignedMaintain standard operating procedure documentation for the processes this role owns
• Cross-train on other Finance Team functions and provide coverage so that no process depends on a single person
• Identify process improvements and recommend them to the Financial Controller
• Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as requested by the Financial Controller
• Participate in special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Employee shall maintain membership in a local church with beliefs that RTIM determines to be consistent with RTIM's statements of faith
• Employee shall perform all duties consistent with RTIM's theological beliefs and standards as reflected in its statements of faith
• Employee shall annually affirm in writing and without reservation RTIM's statements of faith
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required); CPA-eligible or pursuing CPA a plus
• 2+ years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
• Solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Demonstrated understanding of nonprofit and fund accounting principles
• Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (required); familiarity with Sage Intacct a plus
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Familiarity with AI-powered tools and a willingness to use emerging technologies to improve accounting workflows and efficiency
• Competency in relevant collaboration and task management platforms (e.g., Asana)
