Job summary

LHH in Los Angeles is seeking a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting for a portfolio of real estate assets. This hybrid role involves month-end close, reconciliations, and collaboration with operations and external partners.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of accounting experience, a Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with ERP systems. GAAP compliance and timely reporting are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting/Finance required.
  • 3+ years accounting experience; real estate preferred.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA a plus; public accounting a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial records.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for portfolios of real estate assets.
  • Reconcile cash and balance sheet accounts; monitor variances and provide analysis.
  • Assist with audits and regulatory filings.

Staff Accountant

Location: Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid)

Position Summary

A growing real estate investment and property management organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to support day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities. This role will be responsible for assisting with month-end close, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reconciliations, supporting audits, and contributing to various accounting and reporting functions across a portfolio of real estate assets.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with internal departments and external business partners.

Essential Responsibilities
General Accounting
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Analyze financial data and investigate account variances.
  • Track fixed assets and maintain related schedules.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and special financial analysis projects.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and GAAP standards.
Real Estate Accounting
  • Review property-level financial activity and reporting.
  • Work closely with operations and property management teams to ensure accurate recording of transactions.
  • Monitor operating expenses and assist with variance analysis.
  • Reconcile cash accounts, balance sheet accounts, and intercompany activity.
  • Support accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and other real estate transactions as needed.
Accounts Payable & Cash Management
  • Review and process invoices and payment requests.
  • Prepare and record electronic payments, wires, ACH transactions, and checks.
  • Process employee expense reimbursements.
  • Monitor cash balances and assist with cash forecasting activities.
  • Maintain banking records and assist with banking-related requests.
  • Record cash receipts and ensure timely application of payments.
Audit, Tax & Compliance Support
  • Assist with annual audit requests and preparation of supporting documentation.
  • Support tax compliance activities, including gathering information for external tax preparers.
  • Assist with preparation of 1099 reporting and other regulatory filings.
  • Maintain organized financial records and schedules for compliance purposes.
  • Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory requirements impacting the business.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Experience
  • 3+ years of accounting experience required.
  • Experience within real estate, property management, real estate investment, construction, or related industries preferred.
  • Public accounting experience is a plus.
Skills
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
  • Experience working with ERP or accounting software systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA certification or progress toward CPA licensure preferred.
  • Familiarity with real estate accounting concepts and property-level reporting.
