First Chicago Insurance Company seeks a Staff Accountant to support the Lexington, KY office. The role handles daily cash activity, applies premium payments, prepares deposits, and posts journal entries, while coordinating with the bank and internal teams for check verification.

The ideal candidate has two years of accounting experience, strong Excel/Word skills, and familiarity with Sage. Insurance industry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Generate and review daily cash and activity reports from the policy system, credit card and ACH processors, and the bank.
• Apply premium payments; reconcile deposit totals to payments.
• Prepare bank deposits and deliver them to the bank.
• Post daily cash journal entries.
• Serve as primary bank contact for check verification and endorsements.
• Process ACH returns and notify customer service.
• Print premium refund checks and maintain the check register.
• Route vendor invoices for department approval.
• Prepare month-end claims reports and post month-end journal entries.
• Verify inter-company journal entries.
• Assist with other projects as needed.

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to support for our office in Lexington, KY!

Duties & Responsibilities:

Daily

• Generate and review daily cash and activity reports from the policy system, credit card and ACH processors, and the bank
• Apply premium payments received by mail and reconcile deposit totals to payments applied
• Prepare bank deposits and deliver them to the bank
• Prepare and post daily cash journal entries
• Primary point of contact with the bank and internal departments for check verification, missing endorsements or signatures, and stop payments
• Process ACH returns, update the affected policies, and notify customer service
• Print premium refund checks and maintain the check register
• Distribute mail received in the company P.O. boxes
• Route vendor invoices to department heads for approval
• Prepare month-end claims reports and post month-end journal entries
• Verify and post inter-company journal entries
• Assist with other projects as needed

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum two years accounting experience
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Strong time management skills
• Proficiency with Excel, Word, and accounting systems (Sage)
• Experience with cash applications, ACH, and bank reconciliations
• Policy and claim administration system experience (Sapiens Stingray a plus)
