Job summary

Planet Innovation in Irvine, California, is seeking a Staff Accountant to serve as the finance and payroll contact for the business. The role combines financial accounting, payroll, and project accounting with responsibilities in invoicing, time & materials billing, and internal controls across functions and the head office in Australia.

You will partner with supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, engineering, and cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• US GAAP knowledge and practical experience.

• Proficiency with Netsuite and Excel for financial reporting and analyses.

Responsibilities

• Support accounts payable and bank reconciliations.
• Manage project accounting, including budgets vs actuals and time & materials billing.
• Maintain fixed asset register and assist month-end close processes.
• Prepare variance analyses and financial reports for management.
• Assist with external audits and ensure adherence to global accounting policies.

Headquartered in Melbourne, with a growing presence in Irvine, California, we are experiencing strong demand for our consulting services across our client base.

As our US-based Staff Accountant, you will be the key finance and payroll contact for the business, partnering closely with teams across supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, engineering, and our Australian head office. This hands-on role combines financial accounting, payroll, and operational support with project accounting responsibilities, including monitoring budgets versus actuals, reviewing customer agreements, managing time and materials billing, and raising project-related invoices. You'll play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, supporting business performance, and driving continuous improvement across finance processes and controls.

What you'll be doing:

• Support Accounts Payable Lead in Australia
• Bank reconciliations
• Project accounting (reviewing agreements/budgets to actuals/time & materials)
• Cost accounting, including management of average costing
• Timely and correct processing of invoicing and managing accounts receivable
• Review of Timesheets
• Fixed Asset register for accounting and tax maintenance
• Assist in a timely month-end closing process, reconciliations, and relevant postings
• Maintain balance sheet reconciliations, including variance analysis
• Analysis and report preparation
• Identify areas for operational improvements and strengthen internal controls
• Provide backup support for various team functions
• Assist with external audit process and provide supporting documentation as required
• Management of and adherence to global accounting policies
• Work seamlessly with the head office finance function in Australia

What you’ll bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Knowledge and hands on experience with US GAAP
• 2+ years of accounting experience (ideally within a consulting environment)
• Well-organised, detail-oriented self-starter, able to work independently
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities efficiently
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively and collaborate within cross functional teams
• Working knowledge of Netsuite, Microsoft Office Applications, with proficiency in Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
