Job summary

Main Street Capital Corporation in Houston, TX is seeking a Staff Accountant to join the corporate accounting, reporting, and planning team. This full-time, on-site role offers growth opportunities and exposure to management reporting, SEC and SBA compliance, and internal/external audits.

You will handle GL accounting, balance sheet analytics, monthly closes, and ad hoc projects while leveraging AI tools to improve processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required or preferred.
• Master’s in Accounting or MBA is a plus.
• Must be able to meet deadlines and deliver accurate work.
• Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Proficient in Excel.

Responsibilities

• GL accounting, reconciliation, preparation, and analysis of operating activities.
• Assist with management reporting and presentations.
• Prepare balance sheet analytics.
• Support monthly and quarterly close processes.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests.
• Assist with SEC and SBA reporting.
• Contribute to ad hoc reporting and special projects.
• Leverage AI tools to improve accounting processes.

Position Summary

This position will be engaged as a member of the corporate accounting, reporting, and planning team and has the potential for professional growth and advancement in the intermediate and long-term future. This role offers the opportunity to further develop accounting and reporting skills, as well as financial planning and analysis skills, in a unique and dynamic industry.

Responsibilities

• GL accounting, reconciliation, preparation, and analysis related to operating activities
• Assist with preparation of management reporting and presentations
• Prepare balance sheet analytics
• Assist with monthly and quarterly accounting close processes
• Assist with Management, SEC and SBA reporting
• Assist with internal and external audit requests
• Special projects and ad hoc reporting as directed by supervisors
• Utilize Claude/Copilot AI to enhance accounting processes and technology
