Job summary

HOME OF HOPE in Washington is seeking a Staff Accountant to manage daily financial transactions, update the general ledger, and maintain reports. This role supports AR processes, bank deposits, and monthly closings while ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.

You will work with the development team to ensure GL reconciliation with the donor database, handle vendor inquiries, and assist with special projects as needed. Proficiency in Excel and Great Plains is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma with 2 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Experience with Great Plains preferred but not required.
  • Able to interact effectively with others and adhere to Home of Hope’s core values.

Responsibilities

  • Reconcile all Accounts Receivable GL balances monthly.
  • Prepare and process daily cash and credit card deposits.
  • Process weekly state remittances.
  • Review and post receipts and payments to ledgers, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Post daily revenue for project activities and programs.
  • Research problems with vendors or purchasing agents regarding payments.
  • Research and process chargebacks, refunds, bad checks, and similar items.
  • Respond to receivable inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Prepare analysis and summaries of state and intercompany receivable accounts.
  • Monitor accounts receivable to ensure timely payments.
  • Ensure restricted donor revenue is posted timely and accurately.
  • Work with development team to reconcile GL to donor database.
  • Assist in monthly and annual closings.
  • Collect and post postage and copier use each month.
  • Take cash deposits to the bank daily.
  • Pickup mail from the post office daily.
  • Post JE’s for client supplies and household items.
  • Assist with related special projects as required.

Job Summary: The staff accountant manages daily financial transactions, updates the general ledger, maintains reports, reconciles accounts receivables, and ensures accuracy in financial reporting.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Reconcile all Accounts Receivable GL balances monthly
  • Prepares and processes daily cash and credit card deposits.
  • Process weekly state remittances
  • Reviews and posts receipts and payments to appropriate ledgers, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Posts daily revenue for Centsible Spending and the Route 66 Mercantile
  • Research problems that vendors or purchasing agents have with obtaining payment for bills.
  • Research and processes charge backs, refunds, bad checks, and similar items.
  • Responds timely to all receivable inquiries.
  • Prepares analysis and summaries of all state and intercompany receivable accounts.
  • Monitors accounts receivable to ensure payments are accurate and timely.
  • Ensure all restricted donor revenue is posted timely and accurately
  • Work closely with the development team to ensure the GL reconciles to the donor database
  • Assist in monthly and annual closings.

Requirements
Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must possess a high school diploma and 2 years of accounting experience
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail
  • Must demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Experience with Great Plains Financial Accounting Software (preferred but not required)
  • Must be able to interact effectively and work with others.
