Job summary

The Orange Catholic Foundation is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the accounting team with accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and general ledger reconciliation. Attention to detail and proficiency in Excel are essential.

The role also involves journal entries, monthly closings, and assisting with budgets and audits, while maintaining donor data in Blackbaud systems. Requires collaboration with the Controller and finance staff.

Qualifications

  • Requires at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience in a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including macros, pivot tables, and v-lookups.

Summary /Objective

The Staff Accountant will support the accounting team in such areas as: accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, general ledger accounting, and reconciliation of accounts. This candidate must be detail oriented and precise. In addition, this candidate must be knowledgeable of spreadsheets with the ability to create templates. They must have computer and information system knowledge. Because all OCF employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

Essential Function
  • Process Accounts Payable ("AP") including vendor invoices, credit card charges and expense reports; obtain proper approvals, code and record in accounting system.
  • Prepare weekly AP invoice report for review before check printing’ process and print computer checks, bank drafts and other forms of disbursements. Prepare positive pay listing of disbursements and upload to the bank.
  • Maintain vendor file; obtain W-9s and assist with annual 1099 processing.
  • Prepare checks for deposit; determine appropriate bank account for deposit; scan checks using a remote deposit scanner.
  • Update monthly investment schedule; prepare and enter journal entries to record gains/losses, investment income and advisory fees.
  • Monitor journal and record recuring banking activity.
  • Identify, reconcile and record credit card processing fees.
  • Help maintain the filing system of financial transactions and electronic documents.
  • Prepare annual, quarterly or monthly disbursement letter to accompany payments sent to beneficiaries.
  • Assist with the monthly reconciliation of bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, Fund account balances and other accounts as necessary.
  • Update and maintain general ledger supporting schedules in Excel; assist with the preparation of annual audit schedules.
  • Assist with maintaining and updating accounting financial templates, forms, materials, and documentation.
  • Assist in maintaining the accuracy, integrity and confidentiality of constituent, donor and gift records within OCF’s donor management software, Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge.
  • Assist with accurate and timely creation of weekly acknowledgements, monthly pledge reminders and annual year end statements.
  • Supports the Controller, Senior Accountants and Data Team.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, account analyses, and variance reports for management review.
  • Prepare complex journal entries and supporting reconciliations for review by the Controller.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a primary liaison for assigned portions of the annual external audit.
  • Prepare schedules, work papers, and technical accounting analyses for auditors.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Orange Catholic Foundation by performing other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education/Experience/Skills
  • Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic Church ethics, traditions, procedures and organizational structures
  • Requires at least a Bachelor' s Degree in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience in a non-profit organization is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge and experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge and Blackbaud NXT products is a plus.
  • Must be computer literate, resourceful, organized, results oriented and a self-starter.
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of people and is a team player.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel with experience using and creating macros, pivot tables, v-lookups, charts, graphs, or any other advanced excel formulas and functions is a plus.

Work Conditions
  • The position primarily involves work in parish campuses and an office setting, requiring frequent use of standard office equipment such as computers, AV, telephones, printers, credit card terminals, postage machines, and filing systems.

  • Must be available to adjust the work schedule as needed to meet organizational deadlines, operational demands, ministry activities or special projects.
  • Regular interaction with, parishioners, pastors, priests, donors, visitors and staff in a professional and faith‑based environment.
  • Some local travel may be required for meetings, trainings, or work‑related events.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing administrative and computer-based tasks.
  • Frequent walking, standing and movement around the parish or office facilities to support programs and operational needs.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds, such as materials, supplies and event equipment.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating office equipment, preparing materials, and managing paperwork.
  • Visual and auditory ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, students and visitors in person, via email and by phone.
  • Must be able to set up and dismantle chairs, tables and other equipment required for meetings, programs, or campus activities as needed.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work/Compensation

The full-time position is at an annual rate of $70,304.00 - $78,000.00 (bi-weekly rate of $2,704-$3,000), depending on qualifications and experience. Regular office hours are 9:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The part-time position offers $33.80 to $37.50 per hour, with a schedule of 25-29 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as agreed upon.

Evening and weekend work may be required for both the full-time or part-time role.
