Job summary

The Oregon Community Foundation is seeking a Senior Accountant for Fund Administration and Complex Gifts in Portland. You will prepare financial statements for thousands of funds and manage non-cash gifts, including real estate and CRTs, in collaboration with the Philanthropic Services team.

Responsibilities include setting spending policies, administering fees, and delivering accurate donor reports. Strong ethics, confidentiality and nonprofit experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited 4-year institution.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible accounting, finance, real estate, or related experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business or CPA desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare fund financial statements in coordination with multiple internal parties (quarterly for Supporting Organizations and Agency Endowment Partner Funds; semi-annually for Advised Funds; annually for Scholarship and Designated Funds).
  • Calculate annual spending policies for all funds and modify as needed.
  • Manage the assessment of administrative fees for all funds (monthly) and supporting organizations (quarterly).
  • Respond to requests from donors and staff related to contributions and funds; provide reports on fund data and participate in ad hoc analyses.
  • Manage full cycle of property gifts, including due diligence, acceptance, processing, listing, sale, and real estate gifts processing.
  • Assist with intake of charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities; back up liquidation of donated securities; support other complex gifts.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

The Senior Accountant, Fund Administration & Complex Gifts is responsible for the preparation of financial statements for OCF’s 3800+ component funds and six supporting organizations; management of fund spending policies; assessment of fund administration fees; and the management, liquidation and financial accounting of non-cash gifts received by OCF, including real estate, business interests, and other complex gifts. This position also supports other fund administration functions and provides financial information to OCF’s donors, staff, and other interested parties. This position works closely with other departments of the Foundation, particularly the Philanthropic Services Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Fund Financial Management Percentage of Time: 55%
  • Prepare fund financial statements in coordination with multiple internal parties
    • Supporting Organizations and Agency Endowment Partner Funds (quarterly)
    • Advised Funds (semi-annually)
    • Scholarship and Designated Funds (annually)
    • Other funds as required
  • Calculate annual spending policies for all funds, and modify as needed
  • Manage the assessment of administrative fees for all funds (monthly) and supporting organizations (quarterly)
  • Respond to requests from donors, staff, and other interested parties related to contributions and funds.
  • Provide reports on contributions and fund data, in addition to participating in ad hoc business analysis and process improvement projects.
  • Complex Gift Management & AdministrationPercentage of Time: 40%
  • In coordination with the Associate Vice President of Finance and Fund Administration, manage the full cycle of property gifts received by OCF, from due diligence, acceptance and processing through property management, listing, and sale.
  • Work closely with staff managing OCF’s Supporting Organizations to ensure smooth processing and management of annual real estate gifts.
  • Assist with the intake and processing of charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities.
  • Serve as principal backup for the liquidation of donated securities. Coordinate with staff, donors, and brokers to provide exceptional donor service.
  • Provide support for other complex gifts received by OCF, including business interests, closely held stock and promissory notes.
  • Marginal or Non-Essential Job Duties: Percentage of Time: 5%
  • Provide backup support for other Finance staff as requested.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited 4-year institution, or a related degree with significant accounting experience.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible accounting, finance, real estate, or related experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business or another relevant field, or CPA, desirable but not required
Required Professional Competencies:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills: ability to convey information clearly and effectively, especially to those without a financial background.
  • Strong organizational skills: detail oriented, accurate, able to work independently or in a team setting, able to prioritize and manage several tasks concurrently and efficiently, able to meet multiple deadlinesand adapt to change.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles related to charitable gifts, an understanding of real estate transactions, split-interest gifts (CGAs, CRTs), and asset valuation and disposition preferred.
  • Experience working with complex contracts.
  • Excellent problem solving and analysis skills; ability to use appropriate level of judgment.
  • Highly ethical; ability to manage sensitive and highly confidential information discreetly.

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Hiring Range: $92,000 - $100,000 annually depending on experience.
  • Salary offers are determined in conjunction with an internal pay equity assessment.This initial hiring range reflects our starting offer based on your skills and experience.
