The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining accurate financial records, and assisting with monthly and year-end close activities. This role works closely with finance and operational teams to ensure accurate reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and efficient financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and reconcile financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activity.
- Prepare account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and analyses.
- Process vendor invoices, employee expenses, and payroll-related transactions.
- Maintain accurate account coding and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to requests.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, and financial reporting activities.
- Collaborate with operations, purchasing, inventory, and leadership teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting and finance functions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with account reconciliations, financial reporting, and month-end close processes.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical abilities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with inventory accounting, work-in-process (WIP), and standard costing.
- Experience supporting audits and corporate reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of government contracting regulations and compliance requirements.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis.
