Job summary

Lateam Partners in Coral Gables, FL is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to own day-to-day accounting operations and help structure the company’s accounting function. This position offers significant ownership and visibility within the organization.

This role requires hands-on GAAP knowledge, GL, journal entries, reconciliations, AP/AR, and month-end close, plus preparation of monthly financial statements and internal reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Experience in staff/senior accountant roles or similar.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Hands-on GL, journal entries, reconciliations, AP/AR, and month-end close.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Excel.
• CPA or CPA-track a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage day-to-day accounting operations and support the overall accounting function.
• Manage general ledger activities, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes.
• Maintain financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Oversee AP and AR processes and ensure proper recording and reconciliation.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and internal management reports.
• Monitor cash activity and support cash flow forecasting.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Maintain supporting documentation and ensure audit readiness.
• Coordinate with CPAs, auditors, tax professionals, and other financial partners as needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, reporting, and efficiency.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly organized Staff Accountant to join their team in Coral Gables, Miami.

This is a key accounting position for a professional who is comfortable taking ownership of day-to-day accounting operations while helping lead and structure the company’s accounting function.

The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on accounting experience with the ability to independently manage financial processes, maintain accurate records, strengthen internal procedures, and provide reliable financial information to company leadership.

This position offers significant ownership and visibility within the organization and is particularly well suited for an accounting professional who is ready to take the next step toward broader accounting leadership responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and manage day-to-day accounting operations and support the overall accounting function.
• Manage general ledger activities, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes.
• Maintain accurate and complete financial records in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes, ensuring transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and internal management reports.
• Manage bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Monitor cash activity and support cash flow reporting and forecasting.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Maintain appropriate supporting documentation and ensure accounting records remain audit‑ready.
• Coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, tax professionals, and other financial partners as needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, reporting, and overall operational efficiency.
• Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Partner directly with company leadership to provide accurate financial information and support business decisions.
• Take increasing ownership of the accounting department as the company continues to grow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Strong professional accounting experience, preferably as a Staff Accountant, Senior Accountant, or in a similar position.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience with U.S. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
• Hands‑on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, AP/AR, and month‑end close.
• Experience preparing financial statements and management reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Strong proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting processes.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate directly with senior leadership.
• Previous experience helping supervise, lead, structure, or build an accounting function is highly valued.
• CPA or CPA‑track experience is a plus, but not required.
