A nonprofit organization in Arizona is seeking a Staff Accountant to oversee accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP while supporting financial transactions and reporting processes. POSITION DESCRIPTION: STAFF ACCOUNTANT
The Staff Accountant is responsible for assigned accounting operations of the Grand Canyon Conservancy (GCC), including processing sales/reservations transactions, cash collections, deposit management (including donations), inventory transactions, and royalty activities. This position supports the application of internal controls to GCC business operations and transactions. The Staff Accountant is instrumental in ensuring that the Finance Department performs required duties and tasks as scheduled and complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
This is an Arizona-based, remote, non-exempt, full-time, benefit-eligible position. This position reports to the Accounting Manager.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for ensuring the proper and timely recording of revenue transactions from all revenue streams and bank activities.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Sales Data Management
• Verify Point-of-Sale transactional data is imported into the accounting system
• Group transactions by payment type, match sales, and deposit funds
• Identify variance between sales data to the credit card activities and bank account
• Response to credit card dispute
• Record business use of merchandise
• Monthly Reconciliation between the POS system and the accounting system
• Provide a Cash Over-Short adjustment to retail
• Generate and monitor full inventory report to include:
o Daily close-to-matching field activity
o Month-end analysis
o Month-end Reconciliation
• Work with the Distribution Center to reconcile wholesale AR aging
• Prepare monthly accrual for royalty and submit royalty payments semi-annually
• Import Bank Data into the accounting system
• Daily cash reconciliation and identifying the missing transactions
• Executing and coordinating the completion of cash reconciliation
Field Institute Activities:
• Enter booking data from the reservation platform into the accounting system
• Process refunds for cancelled trips
Philanthropy Cash & Credit Card Deposits
• Import philanthropy revenue from fundraising software
• Update EFT and stock donation logs for donations
• Deposit donations to cash
Other Accounting Duties
• Update detailed listing of other accounts receivable and monthly reconciliation
• Prepare for audit requests
• Ad hoc reporting
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Performs approximately 80% of job duties in an office setting, working with a computer and colleagues, performing repetitive tasks.
• May occasionally work more than 40 hours per week or on weekends and holidays to meet critical deadlines and to attend special functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, minimum of 3 years of progressively-responsible experience in accounting and finance, or any combination of education, experience, and training to ensure the ability to fulfill job functions.
•Complete understanding of accounting rules and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
•Experience with accounting software and data entry, and advanced knowledge and experience with spreadsheets
•Ability to work independently as well as positively interact with team members
•Professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal attributes, including integrity, commitment, positivity, and a desire to serve others
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS
•A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting duties
•Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and retail operations is desired
•Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems
•Experience with Oracle NetSuite or other ERP systems is desired
•Ability to analyze financial data and propose an adjustment
•Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings
•Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including periodic evenings or weekend travel
