Staff Accountant

Job Purpose

Prepares income and balance sheet statements, supports general ledger maintenance under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organize monthly general ledger activity for input into the accounting system.
  • Monitor account balances, make necessary adjustments, and prepare journal entries.
  • Prepare and process documentation for internal and external auditors.
  • Identify and investigate accounting system problems as needed.
  • Work closely with field staff to ensure accuracy of accounting information.
  • Prepare income and balance sheet statements and other accounting reports for submission to the Department Lead.
  • Review and verify accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications.
  • Conduct special studies and recommend accounting methods and procedures.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and account analysis.
  • Reconcile assigned accounts and calculate depreciation/amortization expenses.
  • Assist with training and mentoring of Accountants.
  • Analyze trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Analyze financial reports and records, making recommendations for reserves, assets, and expenditures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in an accounting department.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting practices and procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems; J.D. Edwards System is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions.
  • Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day) and walk long distances, possibly on uneven surfaces.
  • Push, pull, and lift objects up to 50 lbs, occasionally bending, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Withstand heavy traffic areas and exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
