Job summary

Third Road Management is seeking a full-time Fractional Accountant to support multiple clients with bookkeeping, reconciliations and financial reporting. You will handle A/R, A/P, general ledger management and payroll processing while building strong client relationships across various industries.

The role requires 3+ years of SMB accounting experience, a Bachelor’s degree (CPA a plus), and proficiency in QuickBooks and MS Office. Willingness to travel within the greater Chicago area is expected.

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience with bookkeeping or monthly close accounting for SMBs.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage projects.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Bachelor's degree required; CPA a plus (active or inactive).
• Proficient in MS Office and QuickBooks (Online/Desktop/Enterprise).
• Willingness to travel throughout the greater Chicago metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

• Supporting clients in daily transactional accounting needs.
• Accounts Receivable: applying payments, recording and collecting receivables.
• Accounts payable: review invoices, ensure coding and approvals.
• Perform reconciliations of bank, loans, credit cards and other GL accounts.
• Assist with balancing the General Ledger and preparing trial balances.
• Prepare routine monthly financial reports and coordinate with auditors when needed.
• Complete payroll processing on time as determined by the client.
• Assist with multi-state sales tax filings.
• File documents and perform other duties as requested by the client.
• Facilitate cash management as needed.
• Build strong relationships with the client and the accounting team.

Job description

Fractional Accountants at Third Road Management work with multiple clients on a routine basis and are responsible for all accounting functions including accounts receivable, accounts payable, reconciling, financial reporting, and general ledger management. They are responsible for building strong relationships with the Client and existing accounting team and can adapt easily to a variety of industries.

Responsibilities

• Supporting clients in their daily transactional accounting needs.
• Accounts Receivable: Applying payments, recording and collecting receivables (ensuring that all billings are collected in a timely manner according to existing payment terms and contracts).
• Perform all accounts payable functions including, but not limited to, reviewing invoices and ensuring, if applicable, they are in compliance with vendor agreements, obtaining invoice approvals from appropriate operational managers and ensuring correct coding of invoices to the appropriate accounts.
• Perform bank, loan, credit card and other general ledger account reconciliations as requested or needed by client.
• Assist client accounting team in balancing the General Ledger by preparing a trial balance and preparing and reviewing reconciling entries.
• Support client accounting team by helping prepare routine monthly financial reports, annual legal entity and tax filings. Also, if applicable, coordinate with auditors to provide documentation as requested.
• Complete payroll processing on a timely basis as determined by client.
• Assist clients and staff in all areas of sales tax compliance. Prepare and review various multi-state sales tax filings.
• Perform filing or other duties as requested by client.
• Facilitate cash management as needed.
• Build strong relationships with the client and existing team.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work independently with support from supervisor as needed.
• 3+ years experience working with small to mid-size businesses in bookkeeping or monthly close accounting is required.
• Excellent organizational skills, demonstrates ability to manage projects, and juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously to meet deadlines.
• Ability to get along with diverse personalities, tactful, mature, and flexible.
• Must possess a strong ability to manage relationships and communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Adaptable to numerous industries.
• Competent in many systems, preferably Quickbooks Online, Desktop or Enterprise. In general, adaptable to whatever accounting system the client utilizes.
• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• CPA (active or inactive) is a plus.
• PC/Microsoft Office proficient (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook).
• Willingness to travel throughout greater Chicago metropolitan area to different client sites.
• This is a full-time role.
