Job summary

Red Cedar Construction Services, LLC in Charlotte, NC seeks a skilled Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This role is not entry-level; you will own core accounting tasks, support month-end close, prepare reconciliations and journal entries, and assist with financial reporting to improve processes in a growing construction and real estate environment.

You will gain exposure to construction, real estate development, debt management, project cost accounting, and daily accounting operations

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, GAAP, journal entries, accruals, prepaids, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Prior experience in a Staff Accountant or similar role with ownership of recurring tasks.
  • Experience with Excel and accounting software; proficiency in month-end close and reconciliations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end close including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and post journal entries for real estate transactions and related items.
  • Review KPIs, financial reports, and accounting schedules for accuracy and compliance.
  • Support project cost accounting and job-related reporting across projects.
  • Assist with bank and credit card reconciliations and daily transactions.
  • Generate planned and ad hoc reports for management as needed.
  • Maintain documentation for accounting entries and reconciliations.

StaffAccountant

Red Cedar Construction Services is seeking a highly capable and detail oriented StaffAccountantto join our finance and accounting team. This is not an entry-level accounting role. The ideal candidate will be a strong, self sufficient accountant who can take ownership of key accounting functions, support month-end close, prepare reconciliations and journal entries, assist with financial reporting, and help improve accounting processes across a fast-growing construction and real estate development environment.

This position will gain exposure to several areas of the business, including construction accounting, real estate development, partnership accounting, debt management, project cost accounting, bank reconciliations, financial reporting, and daily accounting operations. The Staff Accountant will play an important role in ensuring financial information is accurate, timely, organized, and useful to management.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, analytical, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple entities and evolving processes. The ideal candidate is not only strong in accounting fundamentals but also interested in improving systems, streamlining workflows, and identifying better ways to complete recurring accounting tasks. Experience using AI tools, automation, or technology to improve accounting processes is a plus.

PrimaryResponsibilities

  • Completebalancesheetreconciliationsandresearchdiscrepanciestoensureaccuracyandcompleteness.
  • Prepareandpostjournalentries,includingentriesrelatedtorealestatetransactions,HUDstatements,accruals,prepaids,debtactivity,intercompanytransactions,andotherrecurringaccountingitems.
  • ReviewKPIs,financialreports,andaccountingschedulesforcompleteness,accuracy,andcompliance.
  • Supportprojectcostaccountingandjob-relatedreportingacrossconstructionanddevelopmentprojects.
  • Assistwithbankreconciliations,creditcardreconciliations,anddailyaccountingtransactionreview.
  • Playaleadsupportroleindebtmanagementtracking,reporting,andmaintenance.
  • Prepareplannedandadhocreportsformanagementasneeded.
  • Assistwithpartnershipaccounting,realestatedevelopmentaccounting,andmulti-entityaccountingprocesses.
  • Ensureappropriatedocumentationismaintainedforaccountingentries,reconciliations,andfinancialreportingsupport.
  • Helpidentifyaccountingprocessgaps,inefficiencies,andopportunitiesforimprovement.
  • Makerecommendationsforprocessimprovements,automationopportunities,andbetteruseofaccountingsystems.
  • Supporttheimplementationofaccountingprocessimprovements,reportingtools,andworkflowefficiencies.
  • AssistinevaluatingandusingAItools,automation,andtechnologytostreamlineaccountingtaskswhereappropriate.
  • Supportspecialprojectsrelatedtoaccounting,finance,reporting,systems,andoperationalimprovements.
  • Partner with team members across departments to gather information, resolve issues, and ensure accurate financial records.
  • Maintainconfidentialityandexercisesoundjudgmentwhenhandlingfinancialandcompanyinformation.
  • Otherdutiesasassigned.
RequiredSkills&Qualifications
  • Strongunderstandingofaccountingfundamentals,GAAP,journalentries,accruals,prepaids,reconciliations,andfinancialreporting.
  • Prior experience in a Staff Accountant, Senior Accounting Assistant, Accounting Analyst, or similar accounting role.
  • Abilitytoindependentlyownrecurringaccountingtasksandfollowthemthroughtocompletion.
  • Strongexperiencepreparingbalancesheetreconciliationsandsupportingmonth-endclose.

Education&Experience
